[HOW TO] HRP and custom packs on Megaton

DISCLAIMER: This is an excerpt of my guide. For more information about Duke Nukem 3D mods and ports in general head here.

THIS PACK WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR MEGATON!! DO NOT EXPECT IT TO LOAD FULLY!!

1. Download the packs of your choice.
I will cover the most recommended:
- HRP[www.duke4.org] (obviously)
- A music pack of your choice[hrp.duke4.net]. For this example we will take Mark McWane's Music Pack[www.duke4.org].
- PSX sound pack[www.duke4.org]. It is the same sounds as in the original DOS Duke but in high quality (ripped directly from the PSX CD).

2. Install these packs in Megaton's gameroot folder.
Simply dump it all (except the music pack) in Steam\SteamApps\common\Duke Nukem 3D\gameroot.
For the music pack, rename music subfolder and make a new one named "music" without quotes and put all the .ogg files from the pack in. Copy nwinter and vacation subfolders from the original music folder in as well.

3. Load it all.
You have two solutions to launch your mods.
- Using launch parameters. It's the easiest but not the most flexible solution.
Right-click on Megaton in your Steam games list, go to the properties and open the command-launch parameters window. Write this:

-gduke3d_hrp.zip -gduke3d_psx.zip -hduke3d_hrp_megaton.def

Delete this to get back to your original Duke.
- Doing it via a shorcut. This is the cleanest way to load it all since you can repeat it to create multiple configurations and you can place the shortcut(s) wherever you want with this method. Open up notepad and copy/paste this in:

start steam://rungameid/225140//-gduke3d_hrp.zip%%20-gduke3d_psx.zip%%20-hduke3d_hrp_megaton.def

Save it as a .bat file wherever you want. Note that after the game's ID everything is the same is in the first method. The only difference is that you have to replace every space with %%20, so now you know how to modify this to your liking.

Don't hesitate to add more parameters to load mods.
Of course, if you update any pack that has version number in its name, change it accordingly.

And that's it.

It also works with Duke It Out in D.C. Get the package on this page[hrp.duke4.net]. Instructions are the same but you will have to place this def file[puu.sh] in the gameroot folder and use this new command-line:

-gduke3d_hrp.zip -gz_pack-5.3.569.zip -gdc_hrp.zip -gduke3_mus105.zip -hdc_hrp.def

It only has a def file like mine that loads Polymost materials and a bunch of maphacks already contained in Polymer HRP and since Polymer HRP contains Polymost content too, downloading it is absolutely useless. Z-Pack contains alternative skins.

This guide only covers some cosmetic stuff so it's not TC related.
However there actually might be a possibility to play it on Megaton online. I've never tried playing TCs online on ME but knowing how JFDuke works, it could work. Let's give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I'll help you play it on EDuke32 or XDuke.

So I tried playing NAM online with Phil on Megaton and it worked! All we needed to do was putting NAM.grp and its game.con (renamed NAM.con) in gameroot, launching ME with "/gnam.grp /xnam.con" parameters and renaming duke3d-megaton.def in order to have NAM's HUD and weapons.
In other words, we can play TCs online. Don't worry if main menu and episode/difficulty/level names remain the same, Megaton forces them.

Look at my discussion on how to use hrp with megaton.... not eduke... i modified the def file and made a hi res folder.... its on my discussion... i take no credit for textures or models all i did was simply port hrp to megaton, u can also play hrp multiplayer if your pc can handle it. heres hrp megaton Dukematch recording from my twitch channel to prove myself.

It could have been avoided if you weren't that butthurt because everyone that posted in your thread talked crap on your package.

Now let's make things clear: I'm not the kind to post "First!" in YouTube comments but this HRP guide has been posted because there was none. If you did first, I would have gladly tried to help you like I contacted Shiro Wolf about his mod pack instead of making the exact same. Don't trust me if you want, but posting a thread about the exact same thing tells even more about you than your childish posts did.

oddly I have tried to download the hrp from hrp.duke4.net and 3 times now nortons removes it because of....WS.Reputation.1 and states its a very high risk. as duke would say. THIS SUCKS.

Just did a research and Symantec confirms this is a common scenario for false-positives.
Info about WS.Reputation.1[www.symantec.com]
tl;dr It's a system relying on users' feedback and HRP didn't receive enough approvals from Norton users.
