Game won't start: Failed to create d3d9 device this can happen if the desktop is locked

Hi all,

After watching some trailers this was an instabuy for me. Unfortunately after passing the launcher the game starts to load and gives me the following error message: "failed to create d3d9 device this can happen if the desktop is locked".

I have never had this error happen to me before. I have a steam library of over 600 games and this is the first time I have experienced it.

Anyone had this happen to them as well?

I read some information about this error message in combination with Remember Me. There is some guide to changing ini settings but there are just so many ini files for Tale of Two Sons, I wouldn't know which one to change and what value I am looking for..

My standard resolution is 1920x1080. I have a Radeon HD 7800.

Any advice is welcome!

Found this on another steam thread:
Right click on Deadlight in your games list, select 'properties', click on 'set launch properties', add -windowed

Several ppl confirmed it to be working on Deadlight. Try the same on Brothers!

It works! Although I would prefer to use fullscreen. Got a quick reply from customer support who advised me to update graphic card drivers etc. As far as I know everything is upgraded just fine but I will check just to be sure and will post here if I find a fix.

Oh, I also managed to get the game to work on another resolution. It's not optimal, but at least I can play. :)

Some1 said in another thread that they added "-windowed" & then he also had to change the resolution of the game. Hope it helps!

Any error? If not verify game cache files & restart steam

I have set the -windowed option for launch and re-created the desktop shortcut just to be sure it took. I have adjusted the ResY and ResX options in the appropriate .ini file and I am still getting this error when trying to launch marvel heroes. These are the only fixes I've found whilst searching....any other ideas?

"Failed to create d3d9 device this can happen if the desktop is locked" and "p13 error" is what i get.. i force the game via task manager to close since it there is literally no progress at all.

launching it in windows mode didn't fix it..launching the exe from steam folder didn't fix it.. i am running everything as admin, uac is deactivated.. awkwardly the .sav file was associated with "portal2" for whatever reason but deassociating it via cmd did not help either..
i read about changing the (region and) format settings but i certainly won't even consider doing this and doubt it will help.. i suspected a corrupt savegame but after having removed those it still won't bother loading and all i get is a black screen.. i even reinstalled directx from the games folder, neither helped.. i am out of ideas on how to resolve this.

having played like 90minutes without any issues and having spend almost as much time finding the solution now, it really starts to bother me.. i find unfixed issues like this unacceptable.

after restarting my pc it works again... yes, restarting the pc was everything i needed to do! i played the game and left the pc idling for some time, then a few hours later it wouldn't work anymore like what the hell xD... windows is a real ♥♥♥♥♥, thank god bill gates is on his way to become the first known trillionaire (!) for his ♥♥♥♥♥♥ os laying the foundation of surveilling and further enslaving us all. now i know why he invested in monsanto after all, it is to fight the bugs in windows of course! yes chemical warfare agents and carcinogens are just a free gift along the way. the biometric photos soon to be collected globally with ease and the genetic database will also act as some sort of array of scarecrows to fight the animals ruining his gmo harvest and windows after all of course. blessed be he. lord gates, have mercy on us if u have any braincells left in your senile good mind brain..
