First impression..not GOOD
Alright, I read about this on Rock Paper Shotgun, sounded great. My first impressions are poor, maybe I'm an idiot and don't get the controls, but I can't figure them out from the start. Bad game design I think. Two brothers, one cart, both interact with the cart together, one front, one back - try to hit the D key and right arrow key together to move forward. No dice. No matter what key sequence I try together with both boys using the cart, the cart won't move. Instead, I have to move the cart slowly. VERY SLOWLY to the bottom of the hill using one brother.

Silly. Boring. If you are going to make a 3 hour game. Make it a 3 hour game. Don't make a 3 hour game 6 hours because you force people to wait five minutes to move a cart down a hill or crank a 'wheel' to bring your dear old sickly dad up an elevator.

Maybe I'm not cerebral enough for this crap. Maybe I'm too ADHD....all I know is after trying to raise the eleavator for 10 minutes and then have it fall immediately when one of the brothers gets off the crank to go push the ailing dad off the elevator is that I have had enough.

You can't make a first impression. Twice.

$7.49. Too much.

You are better off using a controller for this game.

Apparently you aren't cerebral enough to read the notice that says you need a controller to play it.

Must be a controller then. Im stuck at the same part you are and just watched a video on youtube with the game on the xbox about cranking the wheel and lol, a 3 minute crank was turned into 3 seconds. I haven't tried plugging in a controller yet but I think its very silly that they allow keyboard controls when they don't even fully function properly. Trying to turn that crank has been a waste of 20 minutes in my life.

Some people have gotten past this place & some haven't. I think it depends on your keyboard how many multiple keystrokes it supports at the same time.

Did you buy it without noticing that it said "only controllers supported" on the store page? Now if you did buy it without seeing it, aren't you glad that it does work with keyboard? (As stated some keyboards seems to not be able to complete the game).

My suggestion to you is to borrow a friends controller & maybe in return let them "borrow" your game.

Definitely need a controller. The keyboard controls are barely functionable. It'd be nice if they could patch it up just a little bit. But it's obviously designed with the controller in mind, and they sell that fact on the store page with a warning.

The problem is that most modern keyboards aren't able to register more then three strikes simultaniously.

But yeah, discussing keyboard controlls when the game clearly says "controller needed" is somewhat pointless.

You can't make a first impression twice. You might want to spend a little more time developing the argument for your first post before posting.

the controls work fine with the keyboard except for the crank yea.. not sure whats up with that

I admit, I did not even notice the 'controller needed' on the storefront. I've got a few controller so that isn't a problem, I'll continue on with a controller. However - if a keyboard doesn't work, then the game should notify you when you LAUNCH the game that you need a controller to properly play. Partially implementing keyboard controls is just lazy.

But if they didn't implement it, there'd be another score of people whining about not having any keyboard control at all. The game's page clearly says 'Controller Required' - that you can use a keyboard at all is an added bonus, not laziness.

It's more of a platformer with a very clever controller UI that has gateway puzzles. The real solution is to beg, borrow, or steal a controller. Suddenly everything will make sense.

to be fair they state it as clearly as possible on store page so even a blind man would struggle to miss it. Also every review mentions it.

The bit you mentioned took me about 30 seconds.

The control system is one of the things people like most.

"Talking monkeys" - you should meet my missus!
Anyway, the game reminds me a lot of darksiders 2 - the graphics aren't super high resolution but they're very appealing. The puzzles are as good as DS2 and hopefully we'll see more from the dev team along the same lines. A bit stupid developing a game for a PC that apparently needs a controller but by the time I'd bought it the keyboard worked fine. I love how it makes you see the world through both sides of your brain "sim"ultaneously - its challenging but not stupendously difficult. In Assassins Creed 3 some of the missions are almost impossible, in Splinter Cell blacklist, the achievements too long. These guys have the right idea - make something pretty thats rewarding when you work out the puzzles. I love the "sim" language. Its not perfect but a good distraction from mindlessly blowing things up and shooting people. More, more, more!!! Please.
