Co-Op or Single Player?
This here sentence in the games description:

"Control both brothers at once as you experience co-op play in single player mode, like never before. "

Is nothing but a huge contradiction. "Experience co-op play in single player mode!" really?

Is this game co op or single player? And don't give me that "like never before!" crap either no matter what they did here, it's been done before.

It's single player co-op. You control one brother with one analog stick and the other brother with the other stick.

So it's single player.

It's not co-op unless you have two players. Just because you add a character that you can move doesn't make it co op, How many things can you control at once in an RTS? is that a co-op when you play SP?

Thanks for clarifying :)

You can play Co-Op with just one controller, just have someone else to control the right stick and trigger! :-)

Yeah doing co-op with one controller is dooable in this game. However doing the game solo with a controller is the single best way to play this game.

Is there an RTS that lets you use two mice and two cursors at once? Because that would be a closer comparison.
In Brothers you have simultanious yet independent control of the Brothers.

You need the brothers to coorpate otherwise you will *never* beat the game. But since you control both at the same time. It is single player co-op.

If you want to whine about symatics some more. Your left hand and right hand are controller by diffrent hemispeheres of your brain. so you are actrulyl co-oping with youself not just in this game, but just about any game.

I just think it's pointlessly confusing to call a single player game a co op game when co-op is already established to be 2+ players vs NPC/AI.

It's like the devs wanted to make themselves feel special rather than describing the game. Instead of "Play two characters simultaneously with one controller!" which would actually tell the buyer something, they say "Co-op singleplayer" as if it's some sort of new genre (that nobody would possibly know anything about either way), which it is not, and i'm sure someone can think of a better name for this kind of gameplay than that >_>

It's like whoever wrote that felt it was more important to make himself feel special, than to describe the actual game.

Symantics.
Also by that logic your performing cooperative tasks at all times with yourself which when you think about it is just a foolish notion so, in conclusion this game is single player unless you really want to have someone else hold half the controller your using to play the game.

This kind of gameplay should definitely have a unique name, I mean you're juggling with the controls of two characters at the same time (not that this is the only game that does it, swapper for example does it too, just in a different kind of way) same with all those tactical shooters that allow you to give orders to teammates (again same but done differently) Single-Player Co-Op is not the right choice of words as Co-Op stands for Co-Operative implying there are two or more people co-operating to play the game, you can't do this in "Single" Player mode.

you controll 2 characters individually. it could be a 2 player co-op sure, but that was not intended i guess. since you play them in cooperation to each other it is a single player co-op game. there is no other game like brother afaik. you want your unique name? singleplayer-co-op.. ;)

I did co-op with my sister. We sat beside each other and held 1/2 of the controler each. Hella fun!! I suggest it to anyone!!

new kind of family sharing then.. ;)

Map Brother one to controler one. Map brother two to controler two. 2 player same screen co-op voila!

The concept of 'single player co-op' makes perfect sense. A meta-game of sorts... The two brothers are working in co-op, but you, a single player, are controlling both of them.

The control scheme is frustratingly addictive. Seeing as there are only two controls: movement and 'interact', this game would be TERRIBLE as a true co-op. I personally don't know of any other games where you're simultaneously really controlling two independent characters.

The game is easy. The concept is innovative. And the story is gorgeous.
