I've got the same problem, the game is not working for me. I added windowed property, I changed the registry, and even the additional redistributable setups are not helping. I'm using Windows 8.1...

I solved the problem by opening the steamapps/common/Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons folder. Then I ran the Brothers.exe file. When you try to open the game from it's shortcut, Launcher automatically opens and crashes. If you directly run the exe file, you bypass the problem. Enjoy.

I tried it, and it wasn't working. Some other solutions? Thx in advance

Okay guys, finally I found a solution. I was struggling with that, and not only while trying to run only this game, but also with Dark Souls on Windows 8.1. Credits goes to guy named ♥♥♥♥ enchanter (that's probably the best nick ever):

I had the same problem with dark souls and brutal legend. After days of searching for a solution on the internet, I didn't find anything. So I tought lets just try something random.

step 1: go to c/program files/steam/steamapps/brutal legend (can be any other game with the same problem)
step 2: look for the directory with the directx files.
step 3: unzip all the zip files.
step 4: copy and replace all the .dll files you find to system32 (make back-ups of the files in system32 with the same name just in case)

Hope this helps.

I had some problems with running games from binaries folder (hint: 0xc000007b error), but now they are working. Also I did couple different and strange things, so if you still have some problems, I will discribe them if that could be needed.

. Executing from Steam, game shows no signs of life: with or without launcher.

. So I reached the address:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons\Binaries\Win32
executing the "Brothers.exe": it came up with the "0xc000007b" error.

I'm running a Win7 X64

. Trying to follow the procedure suggested by Fadwick: don't know exactly which file to replace.
I'm about to give up... :(

Hey Covitz,

just unpack all of the .rar files from DirectX directory:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

and from:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons\Binaries\Redist\DirectX

and copy all of those unpacked .dll files into path:
C:\Windows\System32

It should be working. If you will face some problems, just leave here another post. I'll try to help you.

Take care.

[SOLVED]

Use DEPENDENCY_WALKER_x86
(the x86 version, because this game seems to run on a 32bit architecture).
Execute the "brothers.exe" in it.

Check for all the files which are running on 64bit instead: they're highlighted in red.
Find them in their directory, then delete them.

Go to the Steamapps directory.
Run from "SteamApps\common\Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons\_CommonRedist" the distribution you need.

(For example in my situation two files were highlighted: "MSVCP100.DLL" and "MSVCR100.DLL".
I've deleted them.
Then I've executed the VCREDIST_x86 from the folder above mentioned.)
