Hard to keep the game difficult
Until the Item World opened, I felt this game was pretty challenging. It was hard to get money too. Once entering into the item world, I started leveling up crazy fast, and having more HL than needed. Now, going through the story, it's a cake walk. Am I playing this game wrong?

I know you can raise difficulty is cheat shop, but that seems silly as the same issue will eventually happen. IDK, still really like the game, but looking for some tips to keep it fun.

The only Disgaea game that actually felt like a challenge during the main campaign to me was 1, and it might very well be because I didn't know how to cheat my way through back then.

This series is focused on the absurd grind permitted by all the different mechanics, and later entries are more and more shifted towards late-game. If you know even half of what the systems can do, you'll break the main story in a heartbeat.

Feels like item world only having 10/20/30 floors goes a long way into trivializing early game. Enemy levels skyrocket with each floor while still being much weaker than on normal stages - thus letting you get a ton of exp and HL. In previous games, you had to go much deeper to get the same grinding potential.

'Course, it was always possible to do that in previous games, it just took slightly longer.

I treat this game the same way I treat path of exile. I just want to get through the campaign as soon as possible so I can get to the end game which is where the real game begins.

if you only use Fuji and Pirilika until chapter 6 then train a few units for like 5 minutes, the game is the easiest of every Disgaea or Makai related title. Even Baal is easy in this.

the only real challenge come in two part.
first, there's the carnage item world. you most likely cap at 20-35m stats when you can start going there comfortably, but in the last 10 stages enemies have 40-99m stats. they ramp up very quickly since there's only 10-30 stages now. Stages 21-30 are the equivalent of the old stages 80-100. So yeah, dealing with enemies twice your stats is a bit harder than you'd expect. you can, however, still get about 100 item level by skipping every stages, then 100 more in the item enhancement. so it's not that complex... also item are only useful for the movement or special passives they give... stats are almost useless until you get your first carnage arcadia... or the free Neo Baal swords...
the second hard part is... the two final Baal stages. Not only does Baal counter attack three time every time he's hit, but he does so in AOE... AND he reflect part of the damage dealt (Before mitigation). You need.... Movement and four to five evilities which are easy to come by. Yes. Baal can be fully completed in a single turn for every Baal stages.

Money and Item points are a non-issue.
Stats are now calculated separatedly on your character status. you cap at 10m from class mastery and leveling up in the overlord squad, then 10m from the juice bar, then with evility you can EASILY reach 50m stats... then with assault attack you can literaly one shot every single Baal.
one of the story character is so freaking OP it's disgusting.
one of the story character comes with 50 in sword mastery, giving you immediate access to the 3x3 sword skill which you can easily teach anyone making the grind so freaking easy...
A post-game character has 50 in fist which means... yes, the 3x3 fist skill.
there is no 3x3 skills for any other weapon, unfortunately. Sword and Fist only. Fist skill is star element, sword skill is neutral... HOWEVER
Neutral physical skill now use the weapon elemental property. for example, the zieltregen skill (5 target X bow skill) is now neutral, if your bow has "freezing" it makes your attack ice element... meaning your Zieltregen is now ice element, making the Martial stage 1 at 1 star difficulty a cakewalk (-75 ice res...)

Then there's the hospital gacha...
what the hell?
you can literaly make BILLIONS in 5 minutes before reaching carnage. you can literaly mash A for 5 minutes and get 10m stats in the juice bar ready to abuse. there is no challenge!

well no. there is one challenge.
I lost against a player that had 2 units in pvp. he had half my stats (further decreased by my evilities and attack effects)... but that little crab was healing MORE than I could deal for every single hit.
Yes, he reduced my usually 5b damage down to 45m... then healed for 77m. it went to the 30 turns limit and I lost because ONE of MY UNIT killed itself.
I want revenge! lol...
The pvp is surprisingly complex and challenging. people got some weird ideas.

so yeah.
Disgaea 7 is the easiest Disgaea ever. too easy. Imma make a new game and ban the gacha... and ban Ao, Fuji and Suisen. they make it too easy it's almost unfun.

I mean, it's Disgaea. You either get one-shotted, or you one-shot everything else. Trying to be anywhere inbetween is actually pretty difficult to pull off.
Deathraven13 Oct 10, 2023 @ 8:25am
You can make the game easier even before that: I've unlocked the cheat shop after chapter 1, so you boost ennemies and increase XP gained by 150% and you'll be overleveled real quick.

No challenge at all.
Prinny Oct 10, 2023 @ 10:07am
Even though Disgaea has always been a "grind until you're immortal and more OP than Baal" it always had a challenge to it. you could never one shot Baal on the first encounter for every forms. maybe after grinding him for hours, but not at first.
in D7, you absolutely can. and as soon as you unlock the stage before reaching the full 20m stats (10m base, 10m juice) (final total cap is 99m).
it has never been THIS easy. you don't even need to cheese the game anymore. you barely need to grind 5-10 minutes to max out a character. Gacha is way overpowered, if you heal for 5000HL you get at least 7000HL back without trying. 1 billion HL? you get 12B back...
and then there's the DLC....
DLC have always been either too OP or barely worth it. mostly getting their evilities was all that mattered. but this time...
Melodia AND Rozalyn!? You asking for an ICE AGE or something?
Adell when you already got Ceefore?! You asking for hell's blazing eternal fire?!

Before you had to work a bit to get the strength needed for the post game's final stage of Carnage Baal. Now it's given to you on a platter.I wasn't even capped with anything and I one shot all 3 Baals in the final stage. TURN ONE. Why? Because A Maiko and Melodia's spells to grant a new turn actually stacks. You can't use 2 Maiko on the same target but you can use a Maiko's Encouragement and then Melodia's Passion Approach. effectively granting someone three turn at once.
And we're not talking about infernal arms yet...
Ignore all defense?!
Double Damage?!
Grant turns!?
and jumbifications!?
Did you know if you activate arms before going jumbo you gain BOTH effects!? As in, if you activate Fuji's infernal arms for the def ignore then go jumbo, you ignore def and grant everyone +100% backside damage... on top of his one +50% backside damage.
Now think about Ao... double damage then triple it, if Fuji is jumbo, gain +75% AND backside +100%...
Or Ceefore... or Adell.
A mecha warrior gives +1 attack to anything.

Boy am I GLAD the generics can't use the infernal arms.... would be piss easy then.

It's like they wanted to quickly make an overpriced game without doing much efforts, sadly like with gacha games and microtransaction people will still buy it so why make efforts when you can make cash without doing much ?

If it's too easy; use the cheat shop and make the enemies harder. It's not too complicated if you ask me.

Can't go above 20 stars.

Okay sure, but what is stopping you from making the game harder on your end? Did you try using lower gear? Did you try less characters?
I'm sure you can come up with lots of ways to make the game harder for yourself.
Should you have to? Maybe not; but how you play a game is entirely up to you and how hard you make a game can be on your end as well.

If the game is unbalanced it's not my job to fix it.

Once i unlocked item world I got a bit overleveled for the campaign so I just beefed up the difficulty in cheat shop
Prinny Oct 11, 2023 @ 5:09am
what do you mean, using lower gear?
you can clear the game at 20 star completely naked... without using the juice bar, without using the gacha and without unique evilities..
