Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

Disgaea 7 vs 5 worth it?
Hi all, im still unsure if i should buy this one. I had lot of fun with 5 and previous titels. But look at the Pricetag+Promotion on whats new, i cant find much that rly stands out from 5.

Autobattle is no thing for me and wandering the Maps for treasures is not what im looking for either. :)

Whats meaningful for me is the way postgame is designed. I didnt here much from that so far.

In short: could anyone tell me what 7 does better vs 5 in Terms of Postgame or character management?

Thanks in advance

Disgaea has always been devved around the endgame even since the very first game... I doubt this one will differ much from the staple design...
Thats true, but i think 5 was a big step up in that reguard compared to the games before(except 4 maybe, that was cool too).

5 = for original aesthetic 2d art
7 = for 3d change changing disgaea game (some may dislike it)
(also dont try disgaea 6 unless you want it for story)

That really depends on what you considder to be a "step up"... in a sense every disgaea that followed a previous one brought its QoL with it... nothing in D5 was really "new" in that regard but they DID consollidate a whole lot of mechanics that fell in good favour with the community in a single game... That's largely the reason why people recommend 5 if you're entirely new to the franchise.... but if you played ALL other disgaea games too you can see they really didn't introduce anything new; just itterated upon it a bit...

That's not true. It's famous for having a fat endgame, but the vast majority of people play it for the same reason they play any other JRPG: the story, setting, and characters.

There is a reason why Etna, Laharl, and Flonne are so beloved, same with Valatoraz, etc. They're all wacky characters in a wacky world with lots of humor. This isn't a dungeon crawler with all generic characters and a barely-there story.

Go watch reviews of any Disgaea game and see how much of it is dedicated to the endgame. 99% of people don't even bother wasting their time with it, only the diehard few with nothing better to do with their lives.

This is true for a lot of JRPG endgames. A lot of people love Xenoblade 1, 2, and 3, yet all their praise is stacked on story, character, and setting. Very few bother with their extensive endgame, something even the developers acknowledge.

As for me the 5th was the peak of Disgaea. It really felt like DEVs have put so much effort in it. Will have to see if 7th Disgaea any better

Disgaea games have no story, and the gameplay is definitely the focus for most players. The only reason Etna, Laharl and Flonne stand out is pretty much because every single character coming out after them was a huge meme and even considering how shallow and wacky these three were, they were the closest thing to actual characters Disgaea ever had.

No one plays Disgaea, especially the latest entries, for the plot, and if they did, they'd ask for a refund.

Yikes, I stopped reading halfway through your first sentence. Please don't bumble into an adult's conversation and pretend you know what you're talking about, please. Also, actually play a Disgaea game first.

Thanks.

I play it for the story because it's funny. You'll probably be really surprised when I say this but people can like something for different reasons.

I played them for the story too... way too often even. From the overlord who fell asleep whilst the king was assasinated and no1 recognises his power... to the hero who became a hero because "well; that's just what hero's do" to becoming an honour student in demonology tactics because otherwise the schoolboard frowns upon us xD

All whilst eating sardines; because they're good for you and are cannonically the source of a certain vampire's powers.... even though he lost most of it by becoming a prinny instructor xD

critic scores have been out for a while now and disgaea 7 is the highest scoring Disgaea game of all time, also having played JP ver I much prefer 7 to 5, i really hated asagi/essence farming in 5, 7 has none of that and all the grind in game is much funner to me.

Disgaea 5 have a few features that Disgaea 6 and 7 doesn't have like the group attacks or the lift attacks, has a lot characters, from my point of view the main characters are very funny and the story is good, not as well like Disgaea 1 or 4 but fine. I recommend to buy Disgaea 4+ o 5 complete for PC with discount, worth the money and playing meanwhile in few months can buy the 7 with a discount

Lift attacks (or tower attacks) have been in the game ever since Disgaea 1; it was just never mentioned but to go even further back; tower attacks have been in the game even in Makai Kingdom....
Group attacks have been in the game ever since Disgaea 3 (for team attacks) and Squad attacks have been in the game since Disgaea 3 too (for the schoolclub attacks)

That is true, 5th is still the peak of Disgaea, 7th just a step back into good direction.
Though i would say, i like some of the 7th systems, as some of them make the game less grindy like juice bar, hospital gacha and item points for fast stat up, innocent make less impact now though, they just need to polish the animations it's just in a poor state as it is right now (though you can x2 speed and it's less painful to watch)
