Something new: Game won't run
Installed, first run ESC through the black screen, core desing logo appeared, as did the intro vid, then the sceen went black in, what I assume, was the menu. Nothing more.
Then enabled XP compatibility on TRAOD.exe but that made things worse, secondary screen went all squares, main screen remained black, nothing worked - not even the three finger salute - except powering down.

So, how does this run on Win 7? I would have though that, since it is resold in this time, there would be some changes made to it to improve compatibility but, no. Could have used the DVD with the same result.

Angel of Darkness ran fine for me on Win7 up until a cutscene late in the game which caused a crash I never could resolve. Forums suggested it was a graphics/video card issue.

I get the same problems. I managed to get past the menu by just pressing enter, which I guess was just starting a new game, but after 15 seconds into the game, it froze.

I have the same problem. I can hear the menu but I can't see it. So I hear the sound when moving around but I just don't see the menu itself.

Have you set frame rate compensation to fast? if it isnt on that i suggest you do so because if it's set to anything else the game doesnt load properly

To enable it;
Once you launch the game from steam it should pop up with a launcher menu, go to settings from here and under general there should be an option titled Frame Rate Compensation, if it is not active enable it now and set it to Fast. that fixes the black screen issue for a majority of people.

Thanks so much Preston! That really fixed the problem + the following crash when I just pressed enter til the game started. Thanks, now I can play it! AWESOME! :D

My advice is. Get Windows 7 and ditch Windows 8

I have had the same problems running TRAOD on windows 7. I downloaded TRAOD SCU (startup config utility) When I got it, I checked the 'windowed' box under the screen mode options and 'Skip FMV' under miscellaneous options. This will skip the intro FMVs and go straight to the main menu (though you wont be able to view FMVs in game) TRAOD SCU allows you to play FMVs and cutscenes directly, so you can still view the cutscenes out of the game. I would strongly recommend going to stella's tomb raider website for patches and savegame downloads (also see at the bottom a link for TRAOD SCU) http://tombraiders.net/stella/downloads/TR6files.html

Thanks I had mine on smooth, switched to fast and it works. I know it's an old necro of a thread but others may have the issue.

Holy hell, buggy game.

You go on settings then click on your graphics card on the left side of the screen there should be an un ticked box saying "VMR9" press it and run the game this should work for windows 10/8/8.1
