crash at launch!
Hello
as soon as I want to launch AOD, the game crashes and a following message appears:

Build 17 Sep 2003 15:53:15

The following error has occurred

Generic game error

ASSERTION: 'SUCCEEDED (hr)' in C: \ projects \ tomb raider \ Game \ shell \ system \ PC \ sys_d3d_vmr9.cpp (1569)

Looking for an answer on Steam discussions, I saw that someone else had the same problem and they told him to activate VMR9 in the settings. but it doesn't work for me! cuteseane of eidos launches and ... nothing! and if I go back to the Windows menu, and I go back to the games, it appears in a small window and crashes. Help me please! I do not know what to do!

Hello where did you get patch please?

Hi
To fix that, enter Configuration Utility (from Launcher > Settings), go to {YOUR GRAPHIC CARD} tab, and enable VMR9 under Options.

Check this out too:

Those are the proper settings on Configuration Utility (from Launcher > Settings):

GENERAL TAB
  • Frame Rate Compensation: Disabled
  • Processor: All enabled
{GRAPHIC CARD} TAB (first one)
Enabled
Click on "PS 2.0"
  • Monitor Aspect: 1.33 (for 4:3 monitors) or 1.78 (for 16:9 or 16:10 monitors)
  • Monitor Size: 21
  • Screen Format: 32 bits X8R8G8B8
  • Screen Res: Select your resolution with 60fps
  • Multi Sampling: 8 Samples
  • Render Type: Shader Hardware
  • Options: All enabled (VMR9 is the most important)
  • Textures: Highest possible (if you have a middle graphic card or better)
  • Render Targets: All enabled (except nVidia Shadows, it breaks shadows actually)
{GRAPHIC CARD} TAB (others)
Disabled

MOUSE TAB
Disabled (there is a rare issue with mouse and cinematics)

KEYBOARD TAB
Enabled

{OTHER TABS} (each, if any)
Disabled

If the game runs too fast, use a fps limiter to cap the game to 60fps. If you have a nVidia card, you can use nVidia Inspector[www.guru3d.com]

Besides, I recommend to use this patched version of TRAOD_P4, community made (by sasho648), with a lot of fixes and some improvements: TRAOD_P4 v6.6.4[onedrive.live.com]
Extract TRAOD_P4.exe and replace (backup the original just in case) on bin folder.

how does one replace on bin folder?

Extract TRAOD_P4.exe from that package, move it to "bin" folder inside TRAOD main folder, and replace over existing TRAOD_P4.exe
If you don't understand this, you need to learn some Windows basics.
