Is that the complete error message? The final part is missing, it should be "ERROR_ACCESS_VIOLATION in [SOMETHING]".

Are you using some patch or modded verison?

In any case, I suggest to dowload the fixed version of that level from here:
http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showpost.php?p=7734592&postcount=274
Dowload the file and put it on:
\steamapps\common\Tomb Raider (VI) The Angel of Darkness\data\Maps\
Rename the old file as backup, just in case.

I get the same thing and I tried to get that patch but it did not work anyone else have any ideas?
TsK|Xumari Apr 4, 2018 @ 1:00am
You didn't answered my two first questions, so I can't completely help you. Plus "anyone else have any ideas?" is a bit rude.

With the poor information you gave, I only can suggest you now to check file integrity:
  1. Go to Steam > Library
  2. Right click on Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness > Properties
  3. Local Files tab > Verify integrity of game files
If there is some broken or corrupted file it will be downloaded again.

sorry I was not trying to be rude. What was writing in the first post is all I get also NOTHING ELSE and I just downloaded the game from steam. So I was asking if anyone else has any ideas as YOUR idea did not work at all So sorry if you thought me asking for anyone else to help was rude but I would like someone to help me with this problem. If you can't then maybe someone else can.

OK, that was helpfull and easy to fix. Not related to your previous crash tho, I hope the reinstallation resolved it.
To fix that error follow these steps:
  1. Start the Launcher > Settings
  2. Go to {YOUR GRAPHIC CARD} TAB, and enable VMR9 in Options.
  3. Apply, OK.
Now the game will start properly.
Try again that movement in Strahov that was causing the crash before. Let me know if it works, if doesn't we will continue figuring out.

By the way, I paste here my recommended settings:

Those are the proper settings on Configuration Utility (from Launcher > Settings):

GENERAL TAB
  • Frame Rate Compensation: Disabled
  • Processor: All enabled
{YOUR GRAPHIC CARD} TAB (first one)
Enabled
Click on "PS 2.0"
  • Monitor Aspect: 1.33 (for 4:3 monitors) or 1.78 (for 16:9 or 16:10 monitors)
  • Monitor Size: 21
  • Screen Format: 32 bits X8R8G8B8
  • Screen Res: Select your resolution with 60fps
  • Multi Sampling: 8 Samples
  • Render Type: Shader Hardware
  • Options: All enabled (VMR9 is the most important)
  • Textures: Highest possible (if you have a middle graphic card or better)
  • Render Targets: All enabled (except nVidia Shadows, it breaks shadows actually)
{YOUR GRAPHIC CARD} TAB (others)
Disabled

MOUSE TAB
Disabled (there is a rare issue with mouse and cinematics)

KEYBOARD TAB
Enabled

{OTHER TABS} (each, if any)
Disabled

If the game runs too fast, use a fps limiter to cap the game to 60fps. If you have a nVidia card, you can use nVidia Inspector[www.guru3d.com]

Besides, I recommend to use this patched version of TRAOD_P4, community made (by sasho648), with a lot of fixes and some improvements: TRAOD_P4 v6.6.4[onedrive.live.com]
Extract TRAOD_P4.exe and replace (backup the original just in case) on bin folder.

I uh... I've had a couple of wonderful crashes at Strahov as well. When you enter the room with the biodome on the right and the round walls in the middle, if I walk to the end where the lasers are, my game crashes. I downloaded a save from Stella's a step ahead but since it was in the same area it crashed. I basically tried every single option and it still crashes, including reinstalling and verifying. Anyone has any idea how to fix this outside of messing with the graphics settings?

Also, a weird thing with mouse and cinematics? Is that maybe why my cutscenes are skipping? I actually have to pause the game and watch the cutscenes on YouTube because they won't work or they'll skip after a couple of seconds.

Maybe both problems are related. I don't know how to fix the first one more than all I've said on my posts #1 and #3, BUT I know about the cutscenes skip. There is two posible causes of this -at least as far as I've tested myself- so try one by one and see which one solve the problem:

Start the Launcher > Settings
  1. MOUSE TAB > Untick Enable. Apply, OK. Try any cutscene.
  2. GENERAL TAB > Disable Frame Rate Compensation if it is enabled, or enable it in fast mode if it is disabled. Apply, OK, try any cutscene.
In my experience, both Frame Rate Conensation and Mouse can cause the cutscenes to skip. Maybe this solves the crash on Strahov as well. If not, try what I said on post #1:

I've seen some crashes with a particular sound effect, so if any of above has worked, try disabling completely Sound, just as a try.

Thank you! I'll give these a try. I've already disabled the sound as I've read that before but that didn't prevent the crash from happening so that's just a weird one.

But, I hope messing around with the mouse and turning framerate compensation on will work.

I know topic is too old but I found my own solution when nothing helped me (seriously)
I had to download and install Configuration Utility, install it, and run it. There you just click Run game and everything works fine. Even Lara's movement is fixed!

After I set my configuration like the one you recommend the game stop crashing in the reporter murder cut scene, thank you!
