FIX for crashing in fullscreen or when opening inventory! (Works for TR IV and TR V)
A Guide for Tomb Raider: Chronicles
FIX for crashing in fullscreen or when opening inventory! (Works for TR IV and TR V)
Followed this instruction. - In the setup, change your resolution to what you like (I did 1600x900 for a VERY specific reason), and make sure to check the "Windowed" box, change NOTHING else and click OK.
You don't even need to checked the windowed mode. Just select 1600x900 from the setup.
Game ran perfectly after that. And then upon exiting I launched dgVoodooSetup and reconfigured 4K resolution at 3840x2160 and WOW now the game no longer crashes when I press ESC for Inventory or P for pause menu and it's Full Screen!
This is definitely going to solve the problem. It did for me and now I am running the game fullscreen at 4K. Pressing ESC, F5 or P no longer causes game to crash!
After that make sure you set Tomb Raider as Run as Administrator for it to not crash. Now launch the game as normal without using setup and you will no longer experience the crash when pressing ESC or P even at the higher resolutions! :D
I don't know how this trick solves the problem. But it did for me after hours of troubleshooting a few days ago. I have Tomb Raider Last Revelation on DVD this is the same fix I used for that game.
I guess this is a compatibility issue with latest versions of Windows. I played and completed TR: Chronicles over a decade ago on Windows Vista or XP, I forgot but I never had this issue back then.
[1] Download latest dgVoodoo vX.Y.Z archive from:
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html
[2] Extract archive somewhere and keep it
[3] Open the extracted archive folder.
[4] Copy ALL DLL files from MS/x86 folder to your GAME folder.
[5] Copy the single D3D9.DLL file in MS/x64 to your GAME folder OVERWRITING the version you just pasted from MS/x86 folder.
[6] Copy dgVoodooCpl.exe to your GAME folder.
[7] Now RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR that dgVoodooCpl.exe in your GAME folder.
[8] Set options you want and click APPLY/OK.
[9] Your GAME should now run in non-Windowed FULLSCREEN.
You can check that dgVoodoo is working by selecting the "dgVoodoo Watermark" option from the DirectX tab when you run dgVoodooCpl.exe - if you don't see the dgVoodoo Watermark in the bottom right corner of your GAME you've done something wrong.
Why can't anyone else write simple instructions without getting things wrong and being vague.
I never got to play TR5 because the game always crashed or got blackscreens. It's the only one in the franchise I never played, and with this fix now I can! Thank you Op! :)
I installed voodoo, but when I press escap for menu or inventory, my game freze, how to fix PLEASEE :(
