I can confirm that the dgVoodoo works. Soul Reaver 2 worked fine when I was on Windows 8.1, then I updated to Windows 10 and got an error called D3DERR or something. Anyways, tried DXWND and alas, it didn't work. I tried dgVoodoo, all I did was copy the .dll files into the Steam directory, and can even start the game through Steam and it works beautifully.

I had the same issue
Specs:
I5-4590
MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB
MSI- B85-G41 PC Mate Motherboard
8GB Corsair Vengance Ram
Windows 10 Home Premium

i fixed the issue by going into MSI After Burner and going into the Rivia Tuner Statistics Server i hit the big + sign at the bottom, manually looked for soul reaver 2 in the steam fold C:/ Program files x86/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2/SR2.exe and i set the FPS to 60 completely fixed my issues with that.

Using Windows 10 I always encountered the following problem upon launch: 'Sr2.exe has stopped working'.

I tried DxWnd but it didn't work out for me. I also didn't like how Steam overlay didn't work with it. I found a program that fixed both of these problems. It's called DGVoodoo and it's super easy to use. A guide can be found here:

https://www.play-old-pc-games.com/compatibility-tools/dgvoodoo-tutorial/

This fixes absolutely everything, and allows you to use your own choice of resolution, frame rate, and even anti-aliasing such as MSAA.

The changes I personally make are Full Screen, Centered Scaling. Enumerate refresh rates to enable custom frame rate. In the DirectX Tab I change VRAM to 1024 MB, and Resolution to 2560x1440, 99Hz (I have a 3440x1440 100hz screen but want 16:9 for this game). I also use 8xMSAA, and disable the dgVoodoo Watermark once I've tested everything is working.

NOTE that even with the fix enabled, I still fail to launch the game approximately 5 out of 6 times. When the game does launch succesfully though, it's absolutely golden, and you can tab in and out freely without worrying about crashes.

Also, if you play the game in 16:9 like me, consider using a widescreen fix (which gives a proper widescreen aspect ratio without stretching) such as the one found in WSGF:

http://www.wsgf.org/dr/legacy-kain-soul-reaver-2

I am truly thankful for this nice software ... I am playing the game really smoothly thanks to you, it seems that this will be the ultimate solution for old game, which is something I like to do .... I am playing soul reaver on windos 10 ... really I can't thank you enough

DgVoodoo is also designed to let you simply paste a couple of the dlls into the game's directory. Use that method if you want to start the game quickly without having to set up DgVoodoo every time.

Thanks a lot, worked for me!

The thing is, I can't get the widescreen fix to work with dgVoodoo. Once the d3d8.dll file for one of them replaces the other, the previous stops working. What's your solution to that?

dgVoodoo page is dead... what now?

It took me a while to nail this down, but here is what I came up with:

1. I created a shortcut to the sr2.exe and set it to run in the "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode.
2. Find and download NVidia Profile Inspector (I installed 2.13)
3. Find a setting called "Frame Rate Limiter"
4. Set it to your desired framerate. (I chose 60.7 fps)
5. Click the "Apply Changes" button
8. Start the game and confirm you're not experiencing the bugs I was seeing.
a. You should be able to move when you're on the spectral plane
b. Pressing 'D' key to devour souls should also work.

Keep in mind that NVidia Profile Inspector is a little more advanced than the basic controls exposed through the NVidia Control Panel. It's best not touch touch settings in there unless you feel comfortable. Otherwise you may do bad things that impair the performance of your system.

Also note: Testing this goes a lot faster if you have a save file on-hand so that you can skip beyond the introductory video and dialog. If you track down a save file, you can put it under Documents\Soul Reaver 2\savexxx.dat where xxx is the number of your save.

Another note: When you're done playing Soul Reaver 2 you may want to restore the default profile settings so that you can play other games the way that you want to.

Помогло. Выбрал "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)", использовал параметры 640х480, а также отключил масштабирование изображения.
P.S. NVidia Profile Inspector - не применял.

believe it or not its the vsync that helpd this game and since there is no option to swicth it on or off, Off by default! I did try in the Nvidia area but to no effect and i know its the Vsync option because on Gsync monitor this game works without an issue. forcing vsync on with Nvidia inspector works and solves the issues, also DGVoodoo help but then creates a new issue with the game crashiong after about 15mins of game play

I've tried DXWND AND DGVoodoo, all the progress I got was the voodoo watermark on the lower right instead of just having a black screen like I usually do. Can anyone else tell me what's going wrong? I'm on Win10 (I know that in itself is partly wrong).

just download Nvidia inspector and make sure you force on Vsync and make sure its 60FPS and the game will run no problem no need for DGvoodo
