Windows 10 FIX!!!

I can't remember where I found this online but someone discovered that if you copy the d3d8.dll from the reshade website to the games root directory it corrects the weird "teleport" glitch when pressing the attack button, switching between realms works, didn't experience any crashing. Replacing the d3d8.dll in the widescreen patch with reshades works great. The DLL I am referring to is the one you get by clicking on the "d3d8to9" link at the top of the main page. ALSO, make sure your game is installed on the C drive to prevent freezing issues. I now have mine working with proper 21:9 with no stretching (hud still stretched).

Thanks for the topic. This fixed the compatibility on my system. You have to download d3d8.dll from https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases and copy the file into the Soul Reaver 2 directory. I have tested the version from 15. Jul. 2018.

You can also get this file from dgVoodoo but you don't need dgVoodoo to run the game itself.

These last three days I have been trying a number of different solutions, even digging back my old computer, to no avail, the game was borderline unplayable. That is until I retried this method, and this time installing it on the C drive as you mentioned and haven't had a crash or glitch since, and I'm 3 hours in. I had almost given up.
Oh, and I'm playing on gog using the v1.9.2 version of d3d8.dll (I don't know why but the most recent one didn't work for me).
Again, I am forever in your debt.

This is just what I was looking for. The game is literally unplayable without this dll. It should honestly be removed from the store until a fix is included.

I'm so glad people are still finding this helpful. I just hope compatibility doesn't get further broken by future Windows updates.

Thank you so much for this!!!! I was a little skeptical at first because the d3d8.dll doesn't exist in the game directory to begin with, but throwing it in there resolves EVERYTHING! Broken spectral realm, teleporting while in combat, swimming crazy bouncing, and just general wackiness, all solved!!

To summarize, go to https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases and download the latest d3d8.dll file, and throw it into your Soul Reaver 2 directory, which should be here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2

Restart your system and then boot up Soul Reaver 2. MUCH different experience!

I dont get it .
I have a shadow PC ( 12$ ) i installation this game on Steam downloaded this d3d8.dll copie this on my file Steammaps/coomon/soulreaver 2 there where is my file Kain2.exe and the problem whit the Attack bottum is still There.

what have i do fault?

@mont5quie This fix is for Soul Reaver 2, NOT the first soul reaver game. Kain2.exe is the executable name for Soul Reaver 1. Soul Reaver 2's executable is "SR2.EXE". Last time I played the first Soul Reaver game it still worked in Windows 10 without modification.

EDIT: I think at one point I tried the dgVoodoo wrapper for the first Soul Reaver game but it has been a while since I've played it.

@Raziel yes i mean the SR2.exe my fault. the first game SR is working but the second game Soul Reaver 2 has the problem when i push the attack butom Raziel move fast 1 meter forward and the spektal world is broken.

edit: i´m feeling soo dump i Downloadet the d3d8,dll file from reshade copy this in the folder Steammaps/coomon/soulreaver 2 there where is my file SR2.exe have i do downloaded anything else?

If you downloaded the d3d8.dll from https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases and used the latest release it's possible that may be broken. I haven't tested it. The last version I used that worked for me was v1.9.1

This fixes the bugs but it completely disables the widescreen. So it doesn't really help if you want to play the game in widescreen. :S
