When will this game come back.

If there was ever a series that needed a remake (and NOT a reboot), Legacy of Kain: would be it. With all five titles.

For those who are getting error kaine2.exe on windows 10.
Google dgvoodoo and click top link from your results.
Scroll to the bottom to "Various Patches" and click download link.
Scroll down to Winplay DLL - potential crash, download this patch.
Replace the Winplay DLL file in your Soul Reaver game file with your newly downloaded Winplay DLL, but back up the origional file just in case.
Launch the game, choose your Graphics Processor on the launch window and select 1080 dimension.
Enjoy your game xD
Hope this helps as it took me about an hours research to get this running but its a fun game so far reminds me of my childhood :) goodluck getting used to the keyboard controls.

When open world without loading screen isn't a common thing back in a day, this game deliver a technology that ahead its time when it release in 1999. Yes, you can play this game from start until the final boss without a single loading screen. This technology blend with metroidvania world design, and became one of the first 3D open world metroidvania game. By the way. the technology is just a one thing that what made this game great. Beside story, world design, voice acting, atmospheric, dark fantasy setting that influence a later game like DARK SOULS.

One thing if you want to try this gem on High End PC with Windows 10 64bit without any trouble, be sure to download Patch 1.2 (you can google it). Next in game folder be sure right click BinkPlay.exe and in Compability tab check Run Program As Administrator. Do same as previous method at Kain2.exe, and add compability in Windows XP (Service Pack 3). I've used that setting and played the game until finish in 22 hours.

Well, this epic gem worth a modern remake !

I love this game. One of my all time favorite franchises. But It is absolutely 100% broken on steam. It will not run unless you invest time in researching community patches/fixes and downloading random files from all across the internet, and even then you still might not be able to get it working.

Having played the demo from a magazine in 1998, it convinced me that I need to keep an eye on this game and I wasn´t wrong. Tomb Raider 3 just came out and while it was more of the same, it was my first full 3D game I have ever played and it was disorienting at first. However, ever since then, the action adventure genre became my favourite and the sense of exploration and excitement pulled me back again and again. When Soul Reaver came out on PS1 in August 1999, several months past its initial release date, it created a big impact. Eidos also poured a lot of money into advertisements in magazines and even cheesy TV ads. The game, luckily, lived up to its potential.

Playing as Nosgoth´s most wanted vampire wraith, Raziel, we got a game which almost seemed impossible to make within the PlayStation constraints. Detailed graphics, seamless loading of areas, shifting between realms, excellent atmosphere and music in a vast, decaying world. These are the reasons that SR1 became a classic which everybody who played it at release remembers to this date. How can anybody forget the iconic intro where Kain rips off Raziel´s wings in a dramatic fashion? The dialogue and interesting story pulls you into the world right from the start. Even if the cutscenes are not the shortest, the flowery dialogue is a joy to listen to when delivered with such profoundness and heart. This is accompanied by an amazing atmospheric soundtrack by Kurt Harland whose eerie compositions are great to listen to even 20 years later. He designed a layer system based on variations triggered by certain conditions being fulfilled and it dynamically changes in according to what is happening on screen. As Raziel shifts between the realms, the soundtrack changes as well. Creatures´ cries become more twisted and warped.

However, it is the game´s core mechanics which make it such a good game. You start off weak, thrown into the realm of the dead and your ever present guide in form of a voice leds you to a portal which brings you back to the living. While indestructible, Raziel will still fall back into the spectral realm if he is damaged too much in the real world. Time stands still in the spectral realm which is useful in certain puzzles. To regain his former strength Raziel needs to consume the souls of his enemies and in epic confrontations, the souls of his former brothers. Those grant distinct powers - phase through gates, climbing, telekinesis and swimming - and thus open vast possibilities on exploration. Entirely new areas open at some point, sometimes leading to a secret spell which you wouldn´t be able to acquire otherwise. These glyphs are useful but not required to finish the game. Raziel can also collect health upgrades over the course of the game which adds a reason to explore every nook and cranny. Warp gates are great for this as each time the game is turned on, you always start in the bottom of the Abyss but a nearby gate can transport you around whole of Nosgoth.

Exploration on its own is not enough and when traversing, Raziel must fight his now newly devolved kin. You only start with your claws but soon find out that using torches and spears is important to finish the vampires off as their wounds heal fast. The culmination of exploring different vampire clan territories is a meet up with one of Raziel´s brothers, now monstrously deformed. Due to their sheer size conventional weapons are not enough to bring them down and you have to retort to using the environment against them. With each lieutenant´s soul, Raziel gains stronger and new paths open. One of the upgrades is the legendary Soul Reaver, which attaches itself mysteriously to Raziel as his permanent weapon. It can only be used when Raziel´s health is full but once manifested, it will sustain Raziel indefinitely and two strikes are enough to send any enemy into a vulnerable state.

Unfortunately, the game slightly suffered in the end as many areas, abilities and events have been cut to make the deadline. Even though it ends on an infamous cliffhanger, it gave us Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance. This amazing series is far from forgotten but it is sad to see this port being subpar in comparison to the later entries. The dynamic soundtrack has been completely removed from this version, replaced with pre-recorded tracks. It actually reacts to Raziel being close to an enemy, in boss battle or just simple indoors or outdoors, something not so common back in the PlayStation days. The game is also locked to 30fps which is possible to unlock with fan tools but this shouldn´t have been the case. There are other frequent issues such as sound effects endlessly looping which happens a lot more often in the pc version. Dreamcast version which came out in 2001 has 60fps and higher polygon models of all main characters and enemies. It is sad that they didn´t port this version instead. For an optimal experience, get Dreamcast or even PS1 version.

One of the best classic games ever!! Needs a remake/remaster!
