size and crc info not important. just check digital sign date and validity of setup file (and ✅ on for validate integrity during install in set-up parameters).
some reference info, by website similar to steamdb-info
http://www.gogdb.org/products?search=kain+legacy
(size of everything incorrect and represent Unix filesystem "take on disk" size, gog api links have real file-size which always lower of gogdb info).
For BO1 it is same as old fanmade repacks made with fanmade cracked-modded exe to slowdown the game preventing it working too fast on modern machines.
For older SR1 it was same old fanmade repacks with old fanmade by wrace/paul_met fixes+bink-support.
Now SR1 restore original files and remade fixes by they own, without bink video but original. Both BO1 and SR1 now have DirectX wrapper by GOG and its configuration tool.
KainGL for BO1 mandatory.
SR2+ as i can see by files very similar to original retail editions.
All have no issues, same as they older 2012 builds, same as Steam builds based on old GOGs. Required manually limit FPS (eg by Riva-Tuner RTSS). And Xinput for BO2/SR2/Defiance.
Since BO1/SR1 already modded versions, no point keep it clear-original and fanmade mods musthave for increase FPS.
every games forums have such "issues". games itself is last one reason for that. Nowadays Windows 8+ backported from mobiles is issue. Proper setup OS and games - users themselfs - are issue.
Xinput input devices plugged-in in hoping they will work in old games is user issue. Not limiting FPS is user issue. Using outdated g/f/v/sync (increase FPS instead of decreasing it as originally intended) is user issue.
If you by video card Control panel or 3rd party tool limit FPS and plug Old PnP gamepad game will work with no issues. Sometimes needed disable fullscreen optimisation and chqnge dpi scaling, uninstall trash apps like MSI Afterburner. Normal tweaks still related to how Windows and DirectX work in first, qnd video driver is last. Not a games.
if you have only xbox/ps/nintendo gamepad or clone, which all xinput - you must use xinput wrapper. whatever old game it is. any games prior to DirectX10/WinVista. It is normal and mandatory fixes unrelated to games.
Steam Input also an xinput wrapper, unfortunatly bugged just like every else things in Steam - work randomly.
Disable fullscreen optimisation can be set on steam.exe and automatically applied to games started from client Library. SteamInput wrapper. And what remain is FPS wrapper. It be great if still allow forcely set specific FPS (for some games higher than original if no issues appear with that). Ofc if it will work properly, which i doubt Valve can do. And still i wish such option.
Well, I played this one and I was mostly OK with it: setup_legacy_of_kain_soul_reaver_1.2_(21752).exe
I purchased it years ago from GOG. Yeah, no dynamic music, one crash on WINE and I had to restart the game like 3 or 4 times in total due to sound bugging until I completed the game 100%. I got around using a gamepad with AntiMicroX (does the same as joy2key) Not perfect, but not unplayable.
Before getting it on GOG I tried to play it on ePSXe and the dialogues were ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Yeah, maybe trying different setting or pcsx-r could've helped... whatever.
Could you please share the patch from GOG? This game in unplayable on Steam right now :-\
Thanks!
I would but I don't want to get banned here.
It's available on the "mule", I put it there myself.
plugin emulators, multiplatform, Retro arch specificly are kinda bad by design.
Use psxfin aka psX Emulator 1.13 by gazaxian or DuckStation. Properly setup NTSC/PAL modes and FPS limit. Once again - turn off every vsync options everywhere and use FPS limitter.
Make sure PAL version going on 49FPS and NTSC 59. Issues with dialogues mentioned above on emulator sounds like FPS mode issue (whatever Ntsc<->Pal in both way get same result of broken game speed and so game logic).
Checked out the thread "SR1: Enhanced Edition (final update)" He modified some files and fixed the game. I have had this game for years but never got to play it. I saw this thread and tried his fix. You just download the file, unzip it and copy the files the the games install directory. It doesn't modify / replace the files already installed it just adds a few extra files.
