Yes to all of this. Also Square Enix said that there may be a Remake in the pipeline.
+1 No need to disgrace this jewel with modernplay game crap!!! Im just fine with a graphic boost.
Brand new graphics and enhanced level design to fit modern standards this is all I would like to wish for a new game. I'd like to see more realistic and grim graphics instead of old simplified-acidly-colored-comic-book-looking one to make the game more atmospheric, dark and mysterious (one way or another it is dark fantasy vampire story, so dark atmosphere fit perfectly).
No need to invent new cliche story (like may be found in videos of DeadSun, beaten to death plot cliche about hero's wife, how many times it was used in movies and games? hundreds or thousands?), original story is perfect if it will be given more depth to characters and insight to story arcs.
As for gameplay, I'd like old one to be preserved and given slight modern touch (just to make it flow more fluidly).
Even if nostalgic feelings claiming the opposite, not everything was great. There were tedious and repetitive moments, I would like to be edited while keeping the general game mechanics still. Less backtracking (or at least make it more interesting where plot require backtracking).
Level design should allow a bit more free movement and few approaches to advance forward instead of the only one certain way.
Everything else just great as it is.
You're right about story, but games also have gameplay and interaction with environment.
To make both good graphics and decent gameplay with interactive environment, 5 people are not enough. Many eyecandy games which was done by small team have dead world with nothing to interact with and plays more like walking sim.
