So for the most part. He gained the most of kain's 'gift'
I'm guessing Kain KNEW raziel was going to grow them before him. He might have potentially just been waiting for him to grow them. Afterwards, all that was needed was to launching into the abyss.
Hell, what's to say Kain wasn't taking a gamble. in the sense that Raziel MIGHT have come back as a Reaver of Souls. Potentially it might just wounded down to luck.
