Dynamic music not working?
Hello there. As far as i know, the latest unofficial patch should fix the dynamic music lack of the original pc version. I've tried the game in the psx emulator and my surprise is that the entirely OST varies as the situation flows! (combat, spectral world...) This is not happening in the PC version with this patch. Am i missing something?

I see, now i understand. So, how would even sound without this fix? Always the same song during the game? heheeh

Nope. By default the songs are changed after they reached their end or if you press Esc - in the last case the song is reseted (not paused as in the case of new sound engine).
Mmm, so it is like a OST which plays independent of the game stage or area? That sucks. At least, with your patch the songs varies depending the area right? That's nice at least. One more thing i noticed is that the quality of the soundtrack is better on pc, since on psx it seems to be a midi, am i right?

Yes, on PS all music is in midi-format while on PC music is in wav-format. Moreover, in the patch it is used the better possible sound output instead of default for the PC-version of the game -
DirectSound.

Just play on epsxe or Demul, those are better and have dynamic music.

Well, considering the kinds of audio glitches I experienced on Demul, I wouldn't be so quick to recommend it.
I did not have any bad ones I remember.

Lucky you. I got the latest version of Demul and all the plugins and while the graphics are super pretty, the audio's super distorted.

So is it possible to add the new sound engine using the method shown in the video? Can you provide links?

Only as an exception. 2 files lie here[1drv.ms]:
SR1_MusicTracks.zip - just as example and explanation of format of music.txt
(7 additional music-tracks for locations without unique music, which were demonstrated in video)
SR1_Patch1232.zip - main patch with improvements including new sound engine.

Installation: content of these zips should be just extracted into the folder with installed SR1 with replacement (files kain2.exe and winplay.dll; you can create backup of these files before copy).

Important: if you will need to restore the cash of the game, do not forget at first to create the copy of the file savegame.her, otherwise you will lost your saves.

Notes:
1) All features are optional and can be disabled in the file kain2.txt (which will be created after first run).
2) Due to limitations for editing ini/txt-files in the Program Files on the newest OS, one should copy this file (kain2.txt) into unprotected place (say, drive D:), edit it and then copy it back replacing old file, otherwise your changes will be lost. Of course, this limitation can be also adjusted by modifying Security Politics for this file or full folder with SR1.

Limitations:
1) the game should be run from the Steam-interface, otherwise new sound engine will be desactivated (anti-gog=anti-thiefs protection);
2) of course, DEP should be either enabled only for system files (default its behavior) or at least disabled for kain2.exe (if it is enabled for all files - some non-clever users use this setting, preferably on Win-7); stupid anti-viruses (not clever ones like ESET NOD32) should be also disabled; otherwise the game will crash (due to wrong activity of these programs);
I want to note that there is the resource virustotal.com which allows to check any file for viruses (and to see the set of bad anti-viruses with the high percentage of false alarms too)
3) Compatibility Mode is not needed now for kain2.exe (crash at the start of the game at attempt of saving settings into the HKLM-root of registry was fixed in the patch by saving all settings into kain2.txt instead of registry); moreover, Compatibility Mode with Win98 on Win-10 will also lead to the crash of the game (due to the fact of using non-standard memory space for this mode);
4) on Win-7 can be additional problem due to improper version of DirectX 11 or something else (say, very old hardware); in such case one should remove ddraw.dll (part of the dgVoodoo, which is used for support of Steam Overlay for SR1) from the game folder;
5) it is possilbe to play with achievements, but only under the profile of the game SpaceWar (which has at least 5 achievements and which is available on all profiles); it is highly recommended to do this under the fake Steam profile (not your main one); all progress will be saved in the file kain2.txt and can be viewed in the game and outside it (the file kain2.html; colors: red - achievement is not coded yet, gray - not taked, green - taked, yellow - taked in the current session; in this file there is the link to the guides for SR1 on Steam which can be changed - by your wish - on any other http or local link; say, to view any guides (solutions, secrets, so on) from any place in the internet or on your PC inside the game by pressing the appropriate key which you can reassign in the file kain2.html; of course, for this you need worked Steam Overlay in this game).

So you did fix the audio? Or is this mod stil incomplete? I remember seeing a thread around here with the announcement, but I lost the link to it.
Is there any way to get back the old health display? I prefer the green over the blue one.
Otherwise great fix for the game! It works without any problems for me.
