FEZ won't Start!! Crappy game QC
Recently I bought FEZ, the game won't start, only appears the loading screen and crashes next.

There no a real solution for this problem.

Phil Fish!! fix your game and make a better quality control, this is not 2003!!

What system are you running on? We can't read minds here.

Have you tried these...
  • A PC restart
  • Checked all drivers are up to date
  • Changed screen resolution to 1280 x 720
  • Changed FEZ's settings.txt file to launch in 1280 x 720
  • Checked 'Steam' cache integrity
  • Reinstalled
  • Manually reinstalled secondary launchers ('DirectX', 'DotNet', 'OpenAL', 'vcredist')
  • Ran as Administrator
  • Ran in compatibility mode (7, Vista, XP)
  • Forced to launch in a window
  • Edited 'Steam' Launch Options to include the line '-singlethreaded'

I doubt you have even bothered to search for a potential solution.

I'm having similar problems. Just bought the game from the Humble Bundle and it wont start at all. It doesn't even go to a loading screen an crash, nothing at all happens when I try to start the game.

I'm running Windows 8 on my laptop and I've tried every solution Matt suggested, and before that I followed the instructions I found at the Steam support page for the game, except changing the resolution in FEZ's settings file since I can't find it. Where should this file be?

Any help would be appreciated.
What matt said, try that and if that does not work ASK for help instead of trying to BASH at the developer who didn't even HELP port the game to the PC, that was done by a different studio.
The default location for the FEZ Settings file should be in this directory (At least on Windows 7): C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME HERE>\AppData\Roaming\FEZ

Dunno if Windows 8 has this function but in W7 you can open the start menu and type %appdata% and hit enter to go directly to the "Roaming" folder

Hope that helped a bit

It certainly helped me finding the settings file, but unfortunately didn't solve my problem :/

My computer doesn't seem to allow the screen resolution being set to 1280x720, the closest setting is 1280x768. Tried using that resolution and change the settings file accordingly, but it didn't help

If you made a game and ported to every platform you want, you need to do a QC for the new platforms, It's your reputation in game.

Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem. Tried all the suggested fixes, nothing works. :/

Please update your Graphic driver. Then it works!

While the above reply was kind of annoying in its vagueness, I tried futzing with my graphics drivers. Just going into drivers and clicking "update" informed me I had the most updated version. The version was from 2009, though. So I looked up what to do for the ATI Raedon Mobility 5400 series, got the Catalyst thing... which promptly bluescreened. When things came back up, though, computer was running fine, and I could play FEZ.

A few hours later, doing something else, bluescreened again. Rolled back to the previous version, and the screen stopped working until I manually powered down. Because I am a hopeless optimist, I tried using the Catalyst version again... and bluescreened again. It's running Catalyst fine now, and I'd rather not mess with my settings again, but if it crashes again, I guess no more FEZ for me.

So... your decision. Risk bluescreening for FEZ. Luckily, I didn't have anything unsaved, but it's still rather annoying.

You should completely uninstall your old driver before installing a new one to avoid conflicts, especially if your old one was from 2009. You can then use an app like Driver Sweeper to clean up any leftovers from the old driver before installing the latest driver.

  • New versions of Catalyst are not recommended for older cards/chips.
  • Old versions of any driver are usually bad.
  • Mobility? 5000 generation? #400 tier? Why are you buying games instead of buying computer parts/a prebuilt computer?

    Ew.
I don't know what's wrong, but it is wrong.
    1280x720 is a 16:9 ratio.
    1024x768 is a 4:3 ratio, a newer standard of 4:3 screens.
    1280x768 is a horrible abonination of a 5:3 ratio. That's not even a thing.
Please update your graphic driver. Then it makes me less sick.

Because I am a student, and when I got this laptop in 2010 it was (and still is) pretty good?
