sudo xboxdrv --detach-kernel-driver --mimic-xpad --silent
Thanks, Devi710. I assume that works with a PS3 controller because of --mimic-xpad, but I would lose the opportunity to have it recognized as a X360 controller and I would have to map buttons in another way.
I just wanted to say that I'm on Ubuntu 12.04, and my Xbox 360 wired controller worked out-of-the-box; every button and axis mapped perfectly. I've never used or even installed xboxdrv.
Thanks, NA. Unfortunately you need xboxdrv to make a wireless controller work. I should have considered buying a wired one...
That's it! I didn't know Steam was using its own pad settings (n00b). I thought Fez was already detecting an X360 controller but I was wrong; now I can see the X360 controller picture in Fez settings and everything works!
I'm so glad it was so easy, in the end. :)
THANKS!!!
P.S.: It keeps crashing my system when started from Big Picture mode but hey, that's life.
Once you've set the controller up in Big Picture mode you shouldn't need to launch from it, it'll pass the config on to any games that use the SDL gamepad spec as long as they're launched from Steam. Probably has to be ones that are on Steam if I had to guess since it wouldn't know the game uses it when playing with a non Steam shortcut I would imagine
