Does anybody actually think these puzzles are good?
So I just fumbled my way through the boiler room puzzle at the start of the game, and I have to say, it blows my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mind than anyone thought this self-indulgent nonsense constitutes well designed puzzles. They are poorly cued and inelegant, and seem to substitute obscurity and obfuscation for actual intelligent design. In a game with such an interesting mechanic, why is the "action" button almost completely unexplored even though there would be room for so many great environmental puzzles? Instead, those are replaced by a bunch of idiotic sequence problems communicated through dumb mediums that are solved as effectively by trial and error as they are by ingenuity.

I am glad I purchased this on sale, because I am bitterly disappointed by it so far. I wanted a clever puzzler and what I got was a cryptogram book writer by an amateur.

What?.... The hell, I'm incredibly in love with the design, visuals, and sometimes the simplicity of it all. May not cater to some people who, like you expect some miracle feat of engineering from such a low pricepoint (even without the sale), but honestly for the price, I'm way more than satisfied. Call me simplistic, but I think the combination of an amazing and innovative mechanic, brilliant and vivd colors, as well as a very retro-esque and attention capturing sound-track/sound-effects are very attention grabbing. I honestly love it, and while I agree that the interaction could definitely be uped', I still am pretty fond of the game as is. Opinion based, completely, keep in mind.

Totaly agree.

I like 'em, especially the more cryptic ones. After solving something like the security question or translating the tomb you feel like some genius-like codebreaker.

Play some more. There are some nice puzzles, some stupid and some really disappointing ones. But in the end I liked the overall feeling of the game.

All right, you've convinced me. I'll give it another shot.

I really like the simplicity. I'm not much of a gamer, and harder games frustrate me and I leave them unfinished.
Fez feels just right.

I mean I guess if you bought this thinking it would have wonderful platforming puzzles and you're really really set on exploring hard platforming puzzles I can see why you're disappointed, and maybe in that respect Fez should be advertised showing more of its cryptographic nature. I thought the platforming was fun and relaxing, and I thought the cryptographic puzzles were amazing, challenging, and I really liked that this game made me get out pen and paper to keep track of information. When I didn't get something and looked it up online, I didn't think, "oh that's stupid", I thought "oh my god I am so impressed people actually solved that" or "so THAT's how you do it!" The puzzles aren't poorly cued at all, the game gives you like 99.9% of all the information you need, and there is a community devoted to solving the remaining mysteries of Fez. All of this complexity in a game with such simple mechanics is what I love about Fez.

Don't know about the other guy, but the issue I have with it is that I thought it was a puzzle platformer, started playing it like a puzzle platformer, and now to finish, I have to either follow a walkthrough to tell me the answers or go back through all the rooms to try and figure out why "this" tetris piece means "up" or "that" block means whatever it means. I'm not against getting out pen and paper to solve stuff, but nobody told me there'd be an exam on the scribbles on the blackboard.

Can I recommend something to you? Don't go into games with expectations of what they should be, or are. Let the game be what it is. If you don't like the idea of a game being about cracking ciphers, meta-puzzles, etc., then that's fine, but don't try to force the game into this box you created for it and then point at it and say "I DON'T LIKE THIS GAME BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FIT INTO THIS BOX".

I love this game but I got a bit annoyed when I figured out I had to learn their language and numbers to finish a few of the puzzles. I want to solve puzzles, not learn new numbers and letters.

I completely agree. It's not a puzzle game, it's an exploration game. The rare"puzzles" don't test your intelligence, they test your perseverance.
I can understand how people might like this kind of game, but that's a big disapointement for me.
And a big huzzah for the QR codes... -_-

Yep, I agree. There would have been so much room for great puzzles, getting all the normal cubes is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy. For some of the anti-cube puzzles you have to think way too much out of the box and there were none that tried to use the rotating mechanic in any good way (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ QR codes man).

Its kind of sad, I like the game but it could have been so much better with some good puzzles made by for example that guy from "Increpare games". This guy is a master at creating good puzzles.

I liked the difficulty of most of the puzzles, it rewards you for paying close attention, and as Phil himself has said before, this game was made to get people thinking and interacting with one another, to get back that old feeling of discovery, silly game rumors like "I heard if you stand here and do this something happens", etc.

And regarding the QR codes, he's also stated there are alternate ways to get the solutions to the puzzles in the game, they're just a bit harder and require some more thinking. He simply wanted to include something lots of people were using nowadays, as part of the very meta approach this game has.

Remember when trial and error was a feature?

Now people take it as a personal insult because information is so readily available.
