FEZ

Am I missing something?
I've played the game for a while. I've got 9 cubes, 1 anti cube and menu says I'm 33% complete. Up to this point, my impression is that the game is OK. It's sort of interesting, sort of basic, and I feel sort of aimless when wandering about the map. I've left several secret areas behind, thinking that I must need to come back later after getting a new ability or something.

The buzz and reviews are so amazing that I keep thinking I'm about to reach a point where the game suddenly becomes clear and much better. Maybe I just want to believe that, because I want to like the game more than I do so far. So (without spoilers please), does the game change, or is this it?

Basically, FEZ is divided into three parts: the golden cubes, the anti cubes and the "analyze-everything-you-find"-metagame.

The golden cubes part is pretty straight-forward and will probably bore some players. It's when you start hunting for anti cubes that the game really shines. You will have to pick up clues from the environment on how to solve certain puzzles or decipher elements and if you are successful you will feel very smart.

I'd say find 32 cubes and complete the game once before you ditch it entirely. If you like it by then, go ahead and try to 100% the game (actually 209.4%). You most likely won't regret it.

Don't look at it yet, but if you ever get stuck and need guidance, check this spoiler-free "hint" guide out: http://www.gamespot.com/features/the-secrets-of-fez-6372274/

Thanks for the helpful advice and for the link.

Sounds like the best part of the game might be a little over my head. I don't think I've solved ANY of the puzzles yet...most of the time I can't even tell that something is actually a puzzle.

On your advice, I'll keep playing to collect the cubes because I still find the game interesting.
