Flatland, a Romance of Many Dimensions[en.wikisource.org]
Really, read it - it's a fascinating read, and is something you will likely find yourself recommending to everyone.
It will blow your mind, and was written in 1884. 1884. Yeah.
A quest for true originality would have no end, and produce very few results.
They do, but that's not what Fez is.
Flatland: The Movie on Youtube
It gives you an idea of where the book goes, but much like Alice in Wonderland, lacks the deeper poetry and mathematical beauty of the work.
They can, I've just been seeing quite a few people completely missing that aspect of the game. I don't want to somehow make these people like the game or Fish if they already don't, I just want to make sure they're well-informed about what they're talking about.
Never liked it. Though it might be because I had to read it at school as an asignment from a boring, bitter teacher that could ruin christmas without trying too hard.
Also, people need to stop complaining about 'stealing ideas' using game mechanics and enhancing them is what game design is about, if no one was allowed to be inspired by other games then gaming would be a very bland form of media. I mean by that logic Minecraft is stealing from Infiniminer, every FPS is stealing from Wolfenstein 3D, every Platformer is stealing from Mario, every RPG is stealing from Zelda, etc. If people did not use other ideas and enhance and work upon then many great games today would not exist and there would only be a very, very limited number of games in existance.
To quote Edmund McMillen, creator of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac
"It is not about the idea, it is about the execution of the idea."
The creator of Sky Island also said that he was inspired by Fez, not the other way around: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=21756.0
Also, before claiming that it's sad to "steal other people's ideas" you should watch this video starting at 4:16: http://vimeo.com/62839607#t=4m16s
