Fez is one of the worst games I've played in years
I imagine this game does well with brain-dead basement dwelling tokers and pretentious hipsters with a hard-on for chiptunes and lol retro graphics, but take off those black-rimmed, oversized, rose-colored glasses and realize that this is one of the worst games to be released this decade.

The only enjoyable part to this game is the intro, when everything is fresh and the gist of the game is revealed to you. This part is enjoyable due to ACTUALLY HAVING STORY AND A SENSE OF PURPOSE. But once the kernel error, or whatever the played-out gimmick is that restarts the game is, happens, and you're thrown back in your room with the ability to rotate the world, you understand that there's nothing catching or innovative about this game whatsoever. You find yourself plodding through similar, copy-pasted environments pointlessly looking for cube pieces with absolutely no enemies nor obstacles to overcome. The biggest issue is falling a certain distance, but you'll respawn exactly where you jumped off from; this feature even proves detrimental when backtracking through levels, as it forces you to yet again plod through the same tedious environments.

Level after level of slightly varied "puzzles" with poor, anti-climactic, ambient chiptune music playing in the background makes this game incredibly boring. Even the dialogue is boring. There are no challenges, just dull platforming. At which point was I supposed to be engaged? Did I miss something that was intended to be remotely interesting?

Oh wait, but I'm forgetting that vaguely hinting at the location of anti-cubes means this game is tasteful and obviously only for intellectuals who regularly infer meaning from abstract paint splatters. I'm sorry, but you're not cool for following a trend and "appreciating" something someone with plaid loafers referred to as "avant-garde" on their tumblr page, just before that picture of filet mignon they ordered at the Cha Cha Lounge in LA.

Reviewing video games is my profession, and I was given this game for free. I classify this alongside the droves of abysmal cookie-cutter movie tie-in games and nearly every third-party Wii game that plays on some paltry gimmick that loses its luster within the first hour of gameplay. If Phil Fish wasn't such an apprehensive douche about how great this game is, this game would hardly sell. This hipster nerd honestly doesn't care about your praise, because he knows he doesn't deserve it after taking five years to develop a game this boring; his pithy trolls are all just to garner media attention to make people buy this awful game just to see what the big deal is.

Congratulations on being played into buying one of the worst, most uninspired games to be released in the past few years.

Well, I'd like to say, this is one of the best games I've ever played. I have really enjoyed it, it was extremely fun but stupendiously frustrating sometimes. When I got through it all I felt very happy...

They don't need to be inherently better. They are trained. Most of the people in Britiish Goverment went to private schools and universitys for the elite. Not public or open universitys.

Feel free to list 5 xbox360 games that come close to Empire: Total War in complexity and scope I will admit a moot point. Otherwise my point still quite happily stands via the fact i'm actually refrencing evidence.

Again, prove that playing Empire: Total War magically makes you better at solving puzzles. I play a lot of sudoku, why hasn't that made me better at crosswords.

I play a lot of Professor Layton, does that mean I will be good at FEZ?

Probably.

@OP

I bought it and played it. I've actually enjoyed it thus far. Just goes to show that gamers differ in tastes. To say we got duped because YOU don't like it couldn't be further from the truth. I'd hate to imagine how many other false generalizations and assumptions you make about people and things in life.

Mass props to the dev. He had a vision of what he wanted this game to be and it all came together beautifully. It definitely brought back a lot of great memories from the golden 8bit era of gaming. It was also nice to play a game that had the simple qualities of those games in a modern engine with modern gameplay mechanics. While not perfect, FEZ has still been a rather refreshing experience for me.
