He cancled it twice, the first time cause people made fun of him (or bothered him too much) and the second time cause he didn't like gamergate or the Quinnspiracy (ie. he was angry and used an already canceled game to vent that anger).

It was still canceled, to my knowledge, by the time gamergate began though.

Probably because Renaud Bedard ended up doing most of the actual work on the original. Afterwords, Bedard was hired by someone that wanted to treat him with a bit of respect.

Hard to make a game when you don't have a damn clue how to do so.

I think it's impossible to have a fez 2 because the author has confirmed that due to harassment received in the networks will leave the project.
