Daydream: Prologue

Why is it OK to make game clones with no identity?
The game is a good clone, I'll give you that, but why is it becoming more and more OK to make clones of popular games?

what are you talking about?
This game is Little Nightmares clone and isn't even trying to hide it. There are other games that clone DOOM or else. Why is it fine in modern industry??

While it reminds me of Little Nightmares, it's still a different experience than Little Nightmares. Not sure why you have a problem with that. I think it is fantastic to get another experience with in this genre. it would suck that if one wanted a Little Nightmares type experience, if Little Nightmares was the only game in existence to provide that experience.

I'm totally ok by some games being inspired by others, but there's a line where it's just an "inspiration" and when it becomes a re-skin of the original game.

It's not about "genre" in my opinion, this game is pretty much a copy&paste of Little Nightmares, if you've played it this shouldn't be a question for you.
It's not a big deal to have a game similar to another, but similar this much is, honestly, too much.

It's like Soulslike games. Yes, they are basing their game on Dark Souls, but we have, for example, The Surge (soulslike obv) and we have some game like Lords of the Fallen. Sure, they are both based on DS, but while The Surge has similar mechanics and stuff, it still has its personality and some new mechanics as well.

Have you seen dozens of Limbo clones? Same goes here.

You know about Hollow Knight? Hollow Knights has also inspired lots of people to create their own games that remind of Hollow Knight.
BUT, it's great to be inspired by Hollow Knight, and we have great games like Grime that take some mechanics from there and merge with their identity and new mechanics, and we also have games like Lotus Knight that just straight away ripoff the source game (Daydream isn't even that bad compared to it).

I think some games are taking the "inspired by" too far, until it becomes a re-skin. :)
IDK, maybe there is more to this game that makes it "more" unique, but what I've seen in the demo was just Little Nightmares cloned.

Nope, not reskin at all, same genre and that is it. You are only looking at it from the superficial level.

I have seen a ton of people call The Surge a reskin of souls, what you are doing here is no different.
Same genre and that's it? I'm looking at the essence of the game.
Those games don't have to have exactly the same assets to be able to call it out as copycat.

For some reason you mentioned The Surge, but didn't the Limbo clones that I also mentioned.

Can you give me an example of the genre this game is? Is the Genre called "Little Nightmares-like"?
I think there is too little distinction between this game and Little Nightmares. Give me an example of what this game introduced (except of obviously the environment and characters) that's different from Little Nightmares?

In any case, I don't have to prove this to you to have this opinion.
Idk if this is intended or not, but developer took the "inspired by" too far in this case, I think.

I really like Little Nightmares but even that did not bring anything new to the table regarding gameplay. What made it special was the art style and the atmosphere. Calling Daydream a clone seems pretty far-fetched and narrow-minded to be honest. It is clear that the game is a labor of love and it is sad that you can't see it. By that logic you could also say that Sonic The Hedgehog was just a lazy clone of Mario Bros. etc.
