Defiance

Defiance

What am I downloading?
Hello, I recently wanted to come back to Defiance after quitting about a month and a half ago... today I started the launcher and it says I have about 1 day 2 hours worth of download....what is this? Is this the full game downloading AGAIN? If so, why? I already had it downloaded....I can't imagine this being a massive patch that would take as long as a full game to download....I know it's not DLC either since none have been released...Does anybody know what's going on?

I read somewhere online that steam somehow deletes the defiance folder...is there a way to prevent this from happening if this is what happened? I don't know a lot about this computer stuff so if anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it, thanks

No its not you bud, i have the original install, when they patch the game, they install a COMPLETELY new update, which means the entire game is re-uploaded, or requires "a massive re-download of everything" as alota things have changed, or so is the given excuse...

The first expansion recently released. Even if you didn't buy it, there's still a pretty significant amount of data to patch, for your game client to be able to accommodate the server side changes, and to accommodate all of the new characters and graphics you'll be seeing, from the people who did get the expansion.

Ah, heheh, just noticed the date on the original post. I guess THAT didn't have anything to do with the expansion. but the recent lengthy updates did.

Games still crap in my opinion, haven't touched it since initial launch, i dont have time waste on incompetent game launches, messy code being cleaned up "slowly" and "emergency" repairs due to initial incompetence. If you ask me your better off not wasting your time. PLENTY of MMOs out their, and defiance will definitely fail sooner or later. Looking at how much bandwith is chewed through with just updates alone, its gonna grind their systems to a halt. All those expenses and up-keep on their end. I guess that explains the extreme overkill on micro-transactions. Oh well, i moved onto many other games, console and mobile wise. Least my money is better spent on something that doesn't take forever, vs something that does take forever, and is continually updating their "graphical requirements" at least on the pc side. If you go to the game console side.. well hell good luck. Already been their, and damaged 2 ps3 hd's due to some sorta read/write bug that happened from a lovely update that just so happened to have a un-optimized type of code that well... made my ps3 hd sh*T the bed.
