I have the same error, don't even have patch notes. Trying to download the one from their website. At least it has the paych notes, will post here if it works

Just an FYI I was finally able to play Defiance and wow I am glad that my persistence paid off since it is a fun game.

I love riding the quad while holding down the shift key and then pressing the spacebar while turning.... very fun!!!

So you may ask what resolved the issue? Well I honestly think it may have been a combination of a few things but mainly my ESet firewall software does not play well with it even when I put it into gamer mode, or temporarly disabling it. So what I did do was turn off the firewall and protection which was preventing the game from detecting the services it needed.

So, downloading 20 gb is a pure waste on steam and on the homepage its easy working?

I don't know if i should ask for a refund since i can't play the game on steam and i got a guaranteed beta which i cant participate :)
