How p2w and Dead is this game ?

I download it. login in and didn't see any people around.
Cash shop was forced on me as a WELCOME Message. Shop have some DLC. packs Legendary lockboxes. Weapons Mods. etc.
So question is.
How p2w win is this game?
Is it even possible to enjoy it without spending a dime. any in-game currency that let me unlock what Whales get with their credit cards ?

Well I haven't play 2yrs. I login today found maybe 10 people doing event in the map.. (EU server).
If you want to play this game you need to spend atleast $ for inventory slots.. Or you can only have 35 inventory . 1 gun use 5 inventory (1gun 4 mods).
p2w well kinda you need to bought DLC to be able to equip DLC weapons(items) And it drop DLC weapons a lot!!.
Right now I would say it's not enjoyable for new player. You encounter less people / well most people who active are high level.

North American server tons of people. Not pay2win as far as I can tell. They have an event going at the moment (99 problems) you get 30 inv for completing.

Maximum p2w and maximum dead. there are some people still there, very few beginners, mostly veterans who just have put too much money into the game to quit. 99% of the players you will encounter at the big arkfalls. coop is dead, pvp is dead, you will barely see anybody except for the mentioned big arkfalls.
if you want even slightly qol prepare to rape your wallet. if you want the good gear towards engame at some point, prepare to rape your wallet (and by that i mean sell your house and gamble with premium lockboxes until you're broke for a 0.0000001% chance). if you want to even play half of the content or use more than 40% of the weapons that spam your tiny tiny f2p inventory .... prepare to rape your wallet.
you can't even buy some rewards from ingame merchants if you don't upgrade your maximum amount of keys with cash. just fyi ...
also prepare to play solo, i think the last time somebody said something in chat was 1959.
oh, and lags. prepare for serverside lags. your internet connection doesn't matter. you'll have lags and culling and rubberbanding.

conclusion: it's a game that would be fun if it was a b2p or sub game. as it is now it's just a somewhat playable cash grab.

And the big lag spikes that happens when you join the big events and major arkfalls.
these lag spikes make the gold dlc package nearly worthles. (all because of major server lags)

I notice that some perks are locked in dlc.Most of the weapons from arkfalls are also locked by dlc. There is cap for keyotes .Which is too low to even buy lockboxes :/

you dont need to buy the gold dlc package, the weapons and gears that isnt a dlc content is more than powerfull enough.
top-notch toolworks have the best sniper rifle for sale and its not a dlc weapon.
all weapons can be heavily mooded to meet you demands.
(I regret buying the gold dlc package...wasted of money)

But to get the good stuff by just playing normally you have to do so much grinding it's just not worth the effort unless you're capped out and will never have to grind for it again. So in the end you're actually spending more. And just to add insult to injury what Bits you have left won't even get you another lootbox.. So you'll sit there with a few hundred bits you can't do anything with unless you spend even more money.. And that's when you're trapped in a never ending catch 22... This is literally cash shop design to be as anti-consumer friendly and evil as possible..

I've gotten many items from drops that are part of bundles that one can purchase. There's a chance that you can get everything without spending a dime - the likelyhood of that actually happening has got to be highly implausible. As for the grind. I love to grind in videogames. Many people do. I also love the minutiae of crafting, It's not your thing? Fine, but don't suggest that it's a shared sentiment. If everything was easy to get, the game would be over in a day or less for me. It's not my favorite game but you're still wrong about pay to win, especially since there's nothing to "win." I just look for ways to kill things faster. Again, I don't actually want it to be easy to get everything. You have to treat videogames like sex. Just take it slow because it mostly sucks when you finish too fast.

Used to play game a lot when it first came out... great game, great show, great concept... just not much follow through. I get they need funding, but the Season Pass never seemed worth it for this game for the content it gets you. And perhaps they're new, but clicked to Defiance from main Store page when game displayed out of curiosity, and I don't recall the T.I.T.A.N packs before, but HOLY !@#!, are they crazy!? $99 and $199 packs!? Hence what I mean for their pricing... the price of the Season Pass is enough to just buy a modern game (not brand new one), and for the price of the T.I.T.A.N packs can buy 2-4 brand new games.

But, you don't need to buy anything to fully enjoy the game. Yet, people want to spend money for the thing. I have friends that have, for example, spent thousands on, Planetside 2, Eve Online, and the original suck your social life out, World of Warcraft. Don't get me wrong. I don't think this game is all that. I'm just reporting my observations based on my experience.

You don't have to pay a dime to play through the story missions and do well. I put some money in to get inventory, and was happy to support the game. There's the option to pay for the best weapons, but I don't consider that 'pay to win' so much as, I dunno... 'pay to cheat'? I suggest trying it out and seeing if you like it.

Paying for the best weapons in the game like that is pretty much the definition of Pay 2 Win.

If you want to call something ' Pay to Cheat' that would be when they offer Instant max level items.

I see your point, but by that definition, every game with a cash shop is Pay 2 Win. When I hear Pay 2 Win, it sounds like you can't 'win' without paying for it. In my experience, you can 'win' Defiance without paying anything. But you're welcome to use $ to speed things along, so I think of it as Pay 2 Cheat (aka Pay 2 Win Faster).
