this is just a bunch of helpfull information i have learned , i hope it helps you.

how to install Dayz
1. Run ArmA II. Wait until you can see the main menu, then quit.
Do the sameArma II: Operation Arrowhead. and Arma II:Operation Arrowhead beta very important step not doing this will cause errors
3. Download and install the latest version of DayZCommander direct link[dayzcommander.blob.core.windows.net]
4. After dayzcommander install, Click on "Install/Update" in DayZCommander.
5. Update your ArmA II beta patch to the latest edition.
6. Install the latest version of DayZ (Or a previous version if you intend to join a server running it).
7. [OPTIONAL] Install any add-on maps you wish you play on.
hide wrong version in filter - dayz commander

Missing cd key?
try this
right click Arma 2:OA in Steam game library
click properties then
game files tab
then click verify cache this takes a few mins to finish when its done run the game to main menu then close
this is needed to install battle eye and get your key back!
you should do this to all your Arma games just in case some thing is missing this checks and downloads missing files

tips
always force beta patch when using steam
missing files and cd key can be replace by right clicking Arma :OA in game library, properties then game files tab click verify cache and you should get your missing files and cd key

video setting tips
1) in video settings set video resolution and 3D resolution to match , will be blurry if not matching
2) disable post processing , makes the game blurry
3) for computers with older video cards force DirctX 9 in commander settings check .

WARNING: Massive cd-key theft going on [ 29.08.2012 • 17:00 ]

As already mentioned in the previous news post, there is currently a massive ongoing effort by certain entities to steal people's cd-keys to then sell them for a profit. Private hack forums are full of posts of these fraudsters trying to sell heaps of cd-keys for a cheap price. We are talking about hundreds of cd-keys here, so this is not a small issue at all. The game developers confirmed that this is a huge problem right now.

Their process of stealing cd-keys is quite simple: They advertise a supposedly undetected hack on sites like YouTube and the moment you download and run it (it will probably report that the hack failed to load) your cd-key is already stolen. In many cases your actual cd-key in registry is overwritten with a banned one, so you will automatically receive a global ban message on join (see below). This is done to prevent you from using your cd-key again, so the fraudsters can sell them claiming that they are valid and not in use. Note that this can be fixed (temporarily) by deleting the cd-key from the registry and reinstalling your game. While your original cd-key is not banned due to this, it might very well end up being soon when your cd-key is being used by a cheater that purchased it. This causes many players to think they were innocently banned when in fact their cd-key was stolen and used for cheating. At the very least you will often receive a "CD key in use" message when trying to connect to servers.

If you think this is false propaganda to cover up supposed false global bans I advise you to do some research on this yourself. You can easily verify this by searching for "free DayZ hack" on YouTube. You will see lots of results and almost all of them are scams. Most of them are actually quite popular and have thousands of views. When downloading them and opening the .exe file in e.g. Notepad (warning: do not actually run the .exe!), you can find cd-key related strings such as "SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA" (the registry location of the cd-key) inside.

In short, heed the following: DO NOT EVER RUN ANY HACKS OR OTHER SUSPICIOUS SOFTWARE! If you end up being banned due to your cd-key being stolen there is nothing we can do for you.

so I followed this (great setup btw) the only issue I'm having is with battle eye now, it doesnt want to update and I get removed from servers soon after joining thanks to it, any way to fix this? I've seen other people post that uninstalling and reinstalling doesnt help, is there something I missed? thanks!

try running all the games including beta , battleye installs that way if that faills run verify cache
explained in the post above .

I did the verify cache thing for arma2 oa and it keeps saying that one file needs to to be verified but it dosent do that and it says that 2 files are needed for arma2 ....... when i try to install the beta patch it says False cd key.

No at the moment we only have like 5 regular people who play on the server lost alot of people when the server ip changed over night its also hard realistic real day and night hard to get people on servers like that . i also used to have a bad host for my type of server the missions are very demanding on the server load i was not able to edit the bandwith and we had horrible lag because of it. i was able to fix the issue with a beter host
its a very good server handels good i have done a ton of work on it and im allways adding new things

you need to install epoch mod , in commander you can hit install/update and install any mod you want the mod u need to join my server is epoch just enter with dayz commander and it will auto set your settings to join my server with no problem

i think you missed step one , if you do that right it should install battleye
make sure u run all the games to menu
and yes ill help you if that fails

Thank you very much, Just a shame now i have no idea how to play Arma, found myself running away from zombies and frantically attempting to open a door lol. Think ill give the game a go first and learn the ropes before hopping onto your DayZ server and getting ganked ;) Thank's again.
