Is this bascially what Towns never became?

Technically, Gnomoria was developed and released before Towns, so it's a bit disrespectful to talk about it in these terms. But mainly yes, it might have some different features but it's just another dwarf fortress-like game. It's definitely worth the purchase: there is plenty of content for you to put hundreds of hours into it. And the project is not dead, which is nice.

I didn't know which was made first, just that I bought Towns first :S I'm looking into buying it, because it seems interesting... I like Dwarf Fortress-like games (Though I never really figured out what's what in Dwarf Fortress >.<)

For what it´s worth, I first became aware of Gnomoria through a "Are there any other games like Towns, that aren´t abandoned by the developer?" discussion somewhere.

So, if you like Dwarf Fortress, and were excited by what Towns was going to be, Gnomoria is probably the right game for you.

Though you might want to try the demo first (http://gnomoria.com/downloads/ near the bottom of the page).
