Gnomoria

Gnomoria

Gnomes not getting water when at the hospital
So, I recently made a hospital. One of my gnomes went there after getting into a fight with a monitor lizard. A little while later he died of thirst. Reloading to previous save, it seems that the gnome wouldn't leave the hospital to get a drink. What is the problem here and how can I go about fixing it?

Gnomes in a Hospital won't leave until they are healed and taken care of.
That means: if there is no gnome with caretaking-job and/or medic avaible, they will go to the hospital and....die there.

I see. I have a few gnomes with all professions enabled, however, and they don't seem to be tending to the gnome in the hospital?

the basic priority of caretaking and medic is pretty low, so they might just have things to do with a higher priority.
Your problem is you only have a WELL. You can not take water FROM a well, to give to the gnomes (gnomes must walk there themselves). Set up a wine-maker (distillery), or make some beer there, or trade for it.
You will need to keep a set stock of like 20~100 units of drink (it's a good number), and have a few barrels to store it in. 2~3 should do or however many you need (one per type of drink). You can also get milk from the yaks, but sometimes they get killed in fights.

This game is awesome.

Long term solution: give your gnomes the caretaker job and set hospital to a high priority. I personally will give my builders this job and set it as their top priority. Their skill level doesn't affect the quality of the job, just the speed.

Short term solution: remove the hospital. They will run off and get a drink themselves. This will work fine as long as your gnomes don't have a serious eye injury. As long as you make more bandages, your gnomes will treat themselves as they are produced (with exception to the eye injury, that will require a hospital and caretaker to heal).

Also: The need hands to do that, a Gnome that lost both arms will not use a bandage on himself and he will not eat or drink by himself.
Well.....I'm not quite sure if it is worth the work to keep that gnome alive..........but....well.....

Before there where prosthetic limps in the game, I had a special room for crippeled gnomes.....full of trapdoor and a lever aside.
Gnomes inside that room would fall as soon as another gnome pulled that lever.....round about 100 levels deeper they would land inside a magma (or lava) lake. A quick death without a lot of pain.
Later I changed that to a pit full of zombies to keep my crippels forever. Was connectet to the pitfall trap at the entrance so I could throw goblins inside for fun.

damn, I had so much crazy fun with this game...to bad robobob has gone bad.
