Wheelbarrows, Sacks, and Buckets
All I could find were some necro posts so...

Is there any trick to getting your gnomes to regularly use the wheelbarrow, bucket, and sack for moving items around? It seems hit and miss and often they will contently walk RIGHT PAST WHEELBARROWS to go pick up one log and carry that one log back to repeat again. Ditto with sacks and buckets.

I don't know any way to ge them to use them normally, but if you're trying to use the "clean floor" command with wheelbarrows it won't work since each individual square is a single job instead of one big job.

I've even used clean floor to have them try to pick up [and use] the wheelbarrows but no dice. Most I will get is they will carry it to a stockpile that accepts wheelbarrows.

Oh and I find them all over the place. Damn things are littered everywhere.

Maybe make a stockpile for them (the wheelbarrows etc.) in a central location. And make sure there are plenty to go around. My gnomes are happy enough to use them, I keep at least 10-15 of each in my Kingdom.

I should elaborate that I have rarely ever seen them not use them other than when using the clean floor command.

To be clear, you have issues with them *not* using them for clean floor commands? Seems odd since they are just dragging stuff back to stockpiles.

Right. It's because when you designate say a 20x5 area, you aren't creating one 20x5 job to be completed, you're making 100 different jobs that will each be completed individually, and so gnomes don't see a point in using the wheelbarrows for a single item. Even though there are actually 100 things to be moved. They're kinda dumb like that. :P

Gotcha.

That was my guess since it was/could be multiple items. It does seem like a bug in a way. They should at least use the wheelbarrow to pick up items of the same type. I had to clean floor on a ton of logs and misc crap and it took FOREVER.

There are some instances they do now use them, even with the clean floor command. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work if there are multiple items on the same floortile. But i have seen gnomes use wheelbarrows when being ordered to clean away a patch of dirt i just created. They would then use them, run there, gather all the inidivdual dirtpiles and run off with it.

Ironically enough i wish they would do that without the wheelbarrow, since they are capable of carrying a 64/64 dirt pile at once, i really wish they would run around and collect any dirt nearby, even without wheelbarrow.

I've seen that as well, just not with any consistency. I had a clean floor command for a bunch of logs and they did them one at a time. That said, I may have had something other than a pine log in that selection which would have thrown their world for a loop. :)

Ya I hate making the small temp dirt stockpiles [or stone, or whatever] just to get them to stack up 64 before carting them off. :(
