Gnomoria

Combat
I recently started a custom game with the scale to the lowest for attacking enemies and unchecked all boxes except wild animals and goblins.. After training 2 soldiers with sword and board up to level 20+ in both skills. 2 Goblins attacked, with no armor and only 1 had a worn copper hammer. My 2 soldiers had a marble sword and pine shield. After about 2 minutes of fighting my guys were slaughtered and the goblins moved on to butcher my helpless villagers. I had bandages in stock and perks assigned to positions and formations.. but no good.

I usually have all my Gnomes rush in with the Way Of The Gnome perk, maybe that would work better for you.

equip everyone with stone weapons and wooden shields, until you can upgrade to metal weapons, and have them all in squads. They will all come running to the defense of the coloney. Oh, and give them skull helmets and bone shirts as armor, not as good as metal but better than nothing but flesh.

Is bone better than leather?
Arryu Aug 9, 2014 @ 1:51pm
as far as quality goes its none < bone < animal (except bear) leather < precious metals < tin < bear leather < copper < Ogre leather < bronze < lead < Iron < two headed ogre leather < steel

Did your two soldiers have gear? I mean, a stone sword and a wood shield isnt much. If they dont have full armor on, they can get a variety of hits on them that could cause them to suffocate or even instantly die. You can check your combat log to see if they suffered some massive fist of death hit. Ideally you want every single slot covered with armor even if its just tin/leather.

The bone comment is spot on if you got the parts make up helms and shirts. Wiki shows bone helms = leather helms so its a good keeper. I end up with all non-military gnomes in full leather and all military in full metal.

Was too early in the game to have any armor I had just finally gotten some bones from a honeybadger.

You start with a copper weapon, 1 copper breastplate and 1 copper helmet. They can mean a world of difference in a fight.

Arryus list is spot on for the quaility of armor.

This. The starting gear is enough to have one gnome kick the crap out of some base goblins... usually. :)

Any idea if pickaxe and felling axe are better then stone swords?
Miner and woodcutter would have better weapon skills too.

Doesn't really say dmg-wise in the wiki..

http://www.gnomoriawiki.com/wiki/Weapons

Based on what is in there tho, copper > stone so in theory.. yes? :)

For most weps.
steel>iron>lead>bronze>copper/malachite>stone (screw tin)

For blunt weapons its
steel>lead>iron>bronze>copper/malachite>stone

Why lead>copper/bronze? It's so soft it's practically like swinging pure gold at someone..

No they aren't. You are better off giving them a stone weapon than make them rely on their worktools.

I could see that, design trumps composition.

Because Lead is very heavy, which makes it an ideal blunt instrument. And it being "soft" doesn't matter if its a solid bar. You can bludgeon someone to death with a gold bar easily, without the goldbar deforming.
