Automaton doesnt move/nobody refuels him

My Automaton ist sleeping (zzz symbols above his head) and nobody is refueling him.
Yes there are gnomes with the mechanic skill and I have enough coal. Ive read in an reddit post that, if the automaton is sleeping and you dig an hole underneath him, it become buggy and nobody will ever refuel him. Is there any possibility that I can refuel him? Or must I wait till some goblins destroy him an rebuild him ;_;

try setting a gnome with every skill checked and see if he/she will refuel the bot also make sure the priority (if it is mechanic) to top of the to-do -list.

This might be what i am suffer from as well, made a post about it a couple of hours ago in fact, well that i cant refuel him anyway.
I have a bugger of a time trying to fuel mine.
mechanic only gnome did not help (only ideling in the greathall)
put a coal stockpile just next to the automaton (AM from now) and still was ignored. even tried to have my mech gnome in a squad and put him next to the AM and then put him out of it. only thing that happend was that he went back to the greathall.

i did managed to lead a couple of enemies into my AM, that snapped him out of sleep but as the enemies was defeated he went back to sleep and i could not refuel him.
on a side note, it was other gnomes that defeated the enemies.

i shall try and drop him again and see if that does anything.

When I send him to another Kingdom as an Merchant he moves (still with the ZZZ symbols) to the edge of the map and stops there....still no refuel from anybody.

what were the professions of the bots?

I've just made a new map and ran out of fuel for bots I just found a coal vein and I have a few gnome set to do everything but farm, dig and cut trees

their priority is this:

Hospital
Workshop
Mechanic
Build
Hauling
Tinker
Pasture
Agriculture

and as soon as I found coal they refueled my bots

Would they not refuel your bots with coal made from wood?
