Yeah we mention Windows 8 touchscreen controls in the faq, but we never quite made a tutorial. We may add one at some point especially as windows 8 becomes more popular and if we ever make a tablet version of the game. The controls are meant to be used holding a tablet with two hands and using your thumbs (athough you could also play with two hands facing a laptop using your forefingers). Holding on the left side of the screen raises left foot, and the right side of the screen raises the right foot. When in arms mode you use right side of screen to move your arm the same as ground plane (like right analog stick) and left side of screen to move up and down (like left analog stick). You tap on the far left side of the screen (a divider should pop up) to grab and drop objects.
I can't get the touch controls working properly on my Windows 8.1 "Linx 8" tablet.
I can't get past the introduction where you have to lift the key to unlock the mirror.
I can use the right hand side of the screen to move the arm the same as the ground plane, and can tap the left hand side of the screen to pick stuff up (there's a little tentacle icon there I think, at the bottom), but dragging up and down on the left side of the screen doesn't raise or lower the arm, it just moves it "in and out of the screen" (just like the right hand side of the screen).
I've tried turning off the tutorial pop-ups in case they were getting in the way.
I don't have a bluetooth mouse or anything paired with the tablet.
I've played the game on my regular (non touch) PC using XBOX controller and I understand how the controls work for that.
I just installed the game, so should have the latest version, and the tablet is "clean", nothing really on except the windows that came with it and Steam.
I'd appreciate some suggestions, I love the game on my main PC and I've just put it onto my kids tablets so they can play too.
We have new touch controls and tutorials with the mobile versions coming that we will probably migrate Steam to in a future update, but that could be a while for now (we are concentrated on those launches next week).
I've tried holding my thumb in the centre of the right hand egde while dragging up and down with my left thumb along lots of places near the left hand edge (I'd previously tried just a single finger on the left edge). I also tried two (horizontal) fingers along the left edge, then vertical pinch-zoom and pinch-rotate near the left edge. I tried the right edge and upper and lower edges too. Nothing seems to make any difference, it just seems to pay attention to whatever finger moved most recently, rather than separating the left and right sides of the screen.
Thanks anyway for your fast reply, and good luck with the mobile launches!
I'll keep an eye out for a patch.
