Steam controller + xbox 360
Trying to do two player, launched from big picture, set steam controller to gamepad mode (so that it doesn't send mouse commands). I set co op to be left for one, right for 2, steam controller moved both arms as one, and both legs, while the Xbox controller did nothing. Any tips or tricks to get this configuration to work?

Which platform are you trying this on?

Thanks for the reply, I was using Windows 10, I will give it a try on Windows 7 also, I can also double check exactly what version of steam I'm using (one of the betas for the steam controller and big picture).

Just found some other information which may or may not be helpful. I've found that I CAN use steam controller + wired Xbox 360 controller in LEGO Lord of the rings. However, in LEGO Star Wars, and LEGO Indiana Jones, only the steam controller is active, much like my experience in Octodad. Because I've now seen this issue in multiple games, I'll go ahead and make a post somewhere on the steam controller support forums also.

Also, if it helps, In Octodad's settings, I can see both xbox 360 and gamepad listed as input devices, I believe the one listed as xbox 360 is in fact the steam controller though, I'm not certain.

Thanks for your help/time!

Since this seems to be a more general issue, I've posted over at the steam controller forum, with some more info as I try things:

Hi,

I noticed that the Steam controller is both Xbox controller 1 and 2, but my 360 controller comes in as Xbox controller 3 and then it works fine if i just use 1 and 3. Do you have a Xbox controller 3 showing up when you have both connected? It seems as if the Steam controller is recognized as two controllers which I will look into but it also may be part of Steam controller bug or design.

I am using a wireless 360 controller on windows 10 with the steam controller (up to date firmware and steam beta client .

Ok! I will give that a try and let you know my results!

Just thought I'd give an update in case anyone searches and finds this thread as a possible answer. It seems to work, but the Xbox controller is labeled by the game as either player 3 or 4, so it is playable! Many other games seem to have the same response to the odd behavior of the steam controller, and I have yet to hear a resolution from valve, but have put in a ticket/bug request.

Did you have an answer from valve?

They replied that it was a known issue being worked on. Since then, there was an update to the Beta client at least, which did change the way that steam controllers work with xbox360 controllers. I can now play other games (which I couldn't before) using the steam controller and an xbox 360 controller. I haven't checked this one in a while, but the player 3 or 4 workaround mentioned above may still be required. I can try with any combination of 1 steam controller and up to 2 xbox controllers, so let me know what your situation is and I can see what behavior I get now.
