Ratizen with no money won't take a job
My gatherer ran out of money (I guess because of a winter storm) so I assigned him to the tannery but he wouldn't start working there. I put him on the welfare and he still wouldn't take the job. I assigned a different Rat to the tannery and they started working immediately.

I'm guessing he didn't have enough money to buy the leather to make the bags, but I don't see anywhere that lists prices. Is this right, or is there some other reason? How can I find out how much money he needs?

I marked a bunch of tiles for digging, but he wouldn't do any of that either.

Anyway, once spring came, I put him back in the gatherer and he was fine there.

You can go into the code stone and set the price for resources. So next time I guess you could try making a law that set leather to 0 gold, or just make enough tax collectors that your subsidies get to your poor rats in time.

As to the rat refusing to mine or something? I have no idea. Could it be since the rat already had a job as a gatherer, they were just stuck in a loop? Maybe if that happens again, assign them with no job if you didn't already?

Good idea for emergency.

I finally found prices in the storage container tab where you can choose which resources to accept. Truly inconvenient and illogical place to hide this information. I also found it buried in one of the money tabs for the Ratizen. Also, super difficult to find.

Within doubt, just make sure you've got enough tax collectors to spread out subsidies each day and make sure the subs are enough that rats can afford to use facilities and get food. Early game I start everyone at 200 gold sub if they drop bellow 100. I try to keep tax collectors at 1 for every 10 ratizens.

Also don't forget once you start developing other food like bread, that you go into the code stone and allow the lower class to eat it if you want them to.

It is right. As there is no loan system for ratizens, if they run out of pias to buy raw materials, then the production system will jam.

A simple way to keep goods flowing in Ratopia is having a periodic subsidy set in code laws.

You can also see some of the prices in recipes. Although, yes, the storage is the main place to see them.

There is a priority system in the game. I guess the job has a higher priority than mining. You can change it in code laws.

AFAIK, subsidies and wages are all paid right as the day begins. Tax collectors play no role in it.

Although, since subsidies in one end are financed by taxes at the other end, you still need tax collectors to collect taxes and keep the treasury above water.

Yeah I kinda worded that poorly, what I was getting at, is the big reason to keep enough tax collectors, is that the taxes will compound and so when an overworked collector finally gets to a ratizen that hasn't paid in a few days, their income gets wiped out, removing the subsidy in the process, then you're stuck with a starving rat that can't work or use facilities. Granted this usually isn't life-threatening as the very next day the sub will kick in, but it can hamper your productivity/happiness.
