I also don't know, my first evil flower was a bit of a jump scare, because my queen was at half health already. :cozycastondeath::cozykcdaxe:

A flower doesn't like being cut down and fight back. What a surprise train of thought.

But it doesn’t happen every time, that’s what confuses me. Do you know if there’s a specific trigger for it…?

it will happen sometimes when you harvest them(maybe the first time). i never see a harvested joy flower turn evil.

But of course they are evil. To make one, you need 6 water, 6 leaves and 6 meat (can't produce it, though). Add them up and you get 666, the number of the beast. There is a hallucinogenic plant whose nickname is "devil's lettuce". You ratizens use it in shadowy Dens of Joy, which is a reference to opium dens. Once they smoke the flower, they lie down and fall asleep. There is 6 uses and they get 66 stamina (another reference to 666). To trade for Joy Flowers, you get them from Poisontooth, which is described as "dangerous city of outlaws, in a deep forest". You can grind them into Joy Powder, which has no use but that you can sell for a lot of money to prosperous and decadent cities of Farsight (people who get high and look at the stars), Goldtail (a city with a golden harbor, also reference to opium) and to Jotunhammer (a city of warriors in barren mountains, which is a reference to hashish and Hashshashin, order of assassins). Making your kingdom a drug dealer kingdom :)

From what I've seen, some clusters of joy flowers are set to be the evil violent ones. Every time I sent a citizen to harvest it, it always attacks them. But most clusters of joy flowers never react. Mostly likely its that an entire cave of them is set to be evil when the map is generated. Now I'm just using the queen to check each group of joy flowers when I discover them.

Pretty sure it is rolled in generation if they are evil flowers or not. Once you harvested them all, the docile ones stay docile every attempt.

You also get 6 from grinding them with a heavy workload of 3232 (3*2 3*2 = 6 6), which is another 666. Those 6 powders you get also have a value of have a value of 66 and the production of the flowers itself is 2366 work (again 2*3 6 6) and you get 6 of them... which also have a value of 6.
