stop oil consumption?
i'm trying to get my massage table up and running for the citizens but they consume the oil b4 it can even get to the table. i tried making a law for no consumption for all wealth classes but now he will not work at the massage center, even tho it shows oil is inside it still has a red X like none is available. i'm guessing caz i made the law they won't even use it there?

is there a way to designate the oil only for the massage table (making it active again) where they still won't eat it?

thanks for any help :)

You could do it with 2 rules and a ratizen register.
1: Set your massage rat to his own ratizen called "masseuses" or something
2: Top most rule is that massage rats can oil
3: Lower down rule is that no one can use oil
Therefor, no one but your massage rats can use oil, as the massage rat rule is a higher priority and therefor taking precedent over the no oil rule.

there is a 3rd option. Import so much oil from other towns that they can't go through it fast enough.

It is not due to the law as the law only governs self-consumption/buffing for ratizens and has no influence on working with the resource (cooks also still use it). Either you hit a bug or something else was the case. Sometimes (especially later on) ratizens can have some lag finding resources for their work and even if they do not, that red X is still sometimes shown on the building while it works normally.

It should still work with your law in action if you wait a bit. I just tested it in the latest version to check out if this is still the case, since I have used non-consumption laws many times to keep ratizens from using up stuff that my workers needed and nobody but the massage table worker consumed the oil, which is exactly what you seem to want. You don't need to set anything special for it and your law setting should work if the ratizen has enough money and can reach a storage with non-reserved oil in it.

Buying oil is definitely a good option if you can afford it. It is quite useful and not too expensive and using grinders for oil sometimes feels like a curve ball.

There are no top-down priorities in consumption laws (that is only for labour laws). Furthermore if a consumption law is set for one resource, you can not make another consumption law for the same resource.

thank you! maybe i didn't wait enough time but even with them disallowed from it, thru the next 3 crafting cycles of oil (which takes some time using 1 grinder) they were still consuming regardless so maybe a bug or i needed to reload or something...what ended up being the most simple was for now i just made the price of oil to so expensive $$$ to consume that they refuse to pay for it 😂the massage therapist works great now. tho all my poor ratz just died caz i didn't set up a welfare allowance so i plan on starting over again today. so much to learn..thanks everyone for the help!

I've honestly never seen a lag to law changes, so it would be interesting to see a screenshot of the law. Maybe it was disabled or the law stone destroyed or something like that?

That is exactly correct for what you said you wanted in your OP. I am not sure what went wrong. Nobody should have used any oil for themselves and only crafters, service workers and porters should have been able to take it out (and for that type of law in general: builders. But there is no building with oil).

I made the law exactly how it is in your screenshot for testing and nobody but my massage table ratizen took any out. I disabled the law and instantly several sprinted towards the chest and bought some.

Are you in the mood to share the save file? I really want to know what went wrong there, as you are probably not the only one running into that issue and it should be fixed.

PM link or just here if you want to. I can just remove the law myself, though it would be cool to get an early save where stuff was still misfiring, just in case it fixed itself since then.
