Advantages:
+Since they are boxed, if zombies invade using tunnels, they will get stuck inside them. Allowing your guards to mow them down as soon they try to leave the only exit in the room.
+Clean look.
+Force rats to always use railways to reach chest or key areas.
Disadvantages:
+Not meta.
+Your rats are always moving and never close to their workstation.
+Might never reach their beds when tired.
+Hard time collecting taxes with rat shrine.
Elevators Room Railway build.

Advantages:
+More efficient movement for rats.
+Cleaner look.
+Rat are forced to use the elevator more and railways.
+Zombie tunneling prevention by keeping them stuck in a room.
Disadvantages:
+Elevators take time to unlock since you need a lot of gears and nooses. Forced to use wooden stairs until then.
+Not efficient during the early and part of mid game.
+Not meta.
+Not easy to collect taxes with rat shrine.
Single elevator build with railway to reach other areas.

Advantages:
+Everything you need in a neat package.
+Super efficient if elevator unlocked.
+Rats are more active in their work stations.
+EASY way to collect taxes with rat shrine, you could even ignore tax collectors if you wish.
+Meta.
Disadbantages:
+Zombie tunnel invasions are a huge problem.
CAN be solved by building barracks always on the very bottom areas.
+Elevator takes time to unlock, so you will depend on a single set of stairs until then.
+Not clean look.
