the problem with that statement is, if a game is not set up for multiplayer from the beginning it can be incredibly hard to add it later
its not like every engine has just a dropdown menu that lets you click 'multiplayer - on'

If they have not considered it from the start or are already planning on it, it is unlikely to come, no matter how long the game is popular
