Elevators?

Maybe someone can help me out here, I decided to build an elevator in my base hoping it would help speed up all the up and down my rats are doing. But instead of an elevator platform it looks like they are just climbing it like a normal latter? Is it worth even messing with the elevators then? If I go all the way up to the top of it it has a lift platform appear for a brief moment but when I start going down it vanishes and back to climbing.

You need to put rope between the stations

Two Lift Station must be connected to do elevate thing. If not, then it just function as ladder for climbing.

It's also worth noting, even if you have two lift stations, you'll only get the elevator if you START on a lift station, anywhere else, you'll just grab it like a ladder and climb.

As the above said, but don't go overkill with the stations, the rats can offload at any point on the rope, so just make sure you got stations on the major access points and it'll work plenty fine

I disagree, in late game, at least in easy mode, if you already have stable resource income for Lift (vital resource: Rope and Cogwheel), just build Lift Stations in every floor, also don't forget to build floor-specific for railroad, thus not only vertically but horizontally easier move access too.

Ahh that was the problem, I only had one lift station. That explains well... Everything wrong with my elevators and what I need to do to fix it. Thanks guys.
