Bankrupt, Again!
I've tried some of the guides and advice here but keep going bankrupt anyway. I can't even find a cheat to get more money. Can't play long, can't cheat.
Though I appreciate the complexity of the economics and tax system because games are too easy these days, I can't figure out how to at least make a little money instead of always going bankrupt. It's just been a steady decline to bankruptcy every city I try.

If you're not trading all your money away in the trade center or bank, it should all just keep circulating in your population. Are you building a tax collector? I know you said you've looked at some of the guides so I'm probably repeating things, but in my current city. I've got a general living tax of 15% that goes off each day. I also charge money for some facilities like the circus and bathroom.

You could build a hallway with all your toilets, get the rat statue activated, then just occasionally stand in front of it to gather everyone's taxes. Again though, if you're not losing citizens or trading it all away, it should just be circulating in your population. Worst case impose a massive like 50% tax for one day to get most of it back if you're on the verge of ruin.

There are ways to collect taxes to the treasury by imposing a fixed amount rather than a percentage.

Most work facilities do not pay sufficient wages, and the effect of this is that people cannot get food, go to the bathroom, or watch the circus.

While the number of needy people is increasing, mainly military workers tend to be very wealthy.
Instead of focusing only on the needy, it would be a good idea to also develop a tax system that seizes property above a certain amount so that they do not have to hide an extremely large amount of wealth.

For example, the impoverished would be given G200, but those who possess more than G500 would be taxed G300.

By setting a standard amount and eliminating the gap between the rich and the poor, the government treasury can be stabilized by recovering concealed property while supporting the livelihood of residents.
Adjust the amount according to the progress of the game.
Of course, do not forget to maintain the tax office.

Try to put a high wealth tax with a limit and use a first shrine to collect it faster

early game i usually just set it like 600 get 30% or 700 get 25% wealth taxed.
111rush 1 sawmill 1 toilet 1 research(bunker bed+ food tech) rush other sawmill, build bunker beds
222 rush food tech (hunting if you see rabbit holes nearby, or water+grain farm) and all the necessary factories

333 settlement level up (rush tax, prison and shrine_of_rat, set that 600w 30%, spend 500 get shrine of rat activated)

you can build code stone and shrine of rat super high above ground and demolish the ladder(heard it prevent zombie rat attack, not 100% sure)

shrine of rat activation let u tax ppl while walking around doing ur own business.
so pretty much u earn 200gold per rat per day or 2 days if they have job.

at one point you should either build a mint or a tradepost since when you constantly increase your populace while have the same wealth tax even with tenthousand taxoffices you will go bankrupt. its hard to give advise when i dont know what you build or did to manage your wealth.

try to take less of those -5 happiness per tax (its not tax friendly, they almost always -5 since u gonna tax them every day or other day)

and you dont need to take every rat, let them go, just get tons 20%efficiency/30%exp rats for work 10%speed rat for gathering water/food, and 30HP rat for fighting

Just dont accept ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rats in to begin with. The only 2 acceptable negative perks imo are the -30% xp gain, and pacifist (assuming you know the games defense strats well and your confident you can keep them safe).

None of the other negatives are worth taking, no rat is worth the stability to your system. And in a closed system economy you shouldnt be able to go broke. I promise whoever is on your 1st constructed ciruis probably had 4k gold on them. Lol.

Toliet fee = 25g. Tax wealth over 300g at 20% (early game only). Then wellfare pay anyone under 100g, a 100g stabilization payment. Research the rat shrine and put it next to your main storage container so it auto collects taxes, easy GG. This should keep you stable until you can mint more money or you can sell resources off to another nation. Then you switch to taxing daily income, and you raise the wealth tax to like 2k gold so your rats can be middle class. All you actually need a bank for in this game is paying your military and government officials (who pay taxes back too lol)

Im playing on normal so i only spawned with 10k gold. In this SS im holding 18k personally, and my citizens have about 16k across the 40 of them. So ive minted/traded/immigrated almost 24k of new currency.
