If it's something like honey or bread, you'll need to activate a law that enables access to this food type for all citizen classes. Higher quality food items are by default, locked off from bronze-class citizens, and if they're your primary workforce, and have no access to grain, they'll starve.

If you do that they will run out of money as they can't afford the expensive food.

Just don't build any food processing buildings until you have middle class. The poor will gladly eat raw meat and grain.

Yea, since there is no way for you to lose money until you get to trading. All the Pia just recirculating around in the city. You could tax ratizens with over 500 Pia 80% of their wealth and redistribute it out again through subsidy. Until you can find a way to reliably supply your city with 3 different necessities, there is no reason to have any ratizens hoarding wealth.

Note that I haven't been able to play the game enough yet to know all the mechanics for sure, but I believe that they essentially consume a necessity to build up their necessity meter. And that meter decays over time, meaning they have to get a new necessity to consume it to fill it up again. And that's why you have some rats with the perk that their necessity meter decays slower. And each different necessity has it's own "sub meter". So for example oil can be at 26% and pottery at 80%. But they all add up in some fashion to decide the total necessity meter which provides the happiness bonus. And as the submenu says, the more different "sub necessities" that is fulfilled of their tier, the more likely the ratizen is to ascend into a higher tier.

i see. now i think of using gum boots and satchel for necessitys. but optimal would be best i just know they are renewable.

1. Storage which contain foods are far away. Unless you do Labor Law for Manage Schedule, your Ratizen will prioritize working rather than finding/walking toward food. So, make sure to place several Storage or the Mini ones across the map after you've researched it.
2. Your Ratizen are poor, can't afford food. In this game, your Ratizen 'buy' food not just take it from chest.
3. Bug, If you limit Input your Storage for Grain or Raw Meat for example, even though there's still inside, your Ratizen can't buy/eat it. Same goes if you limit Output/Release (but this isn't a bug, but for intentional purpose).

rat probably have money to buy the food
Vito Nov 13, 2023 @ 2:15pm
They need to change it so that all rats can eat any food, but will prioritize food appropriate for their class. It doesn't make sense they would choose to starve because they don't feel posh enough to eat bread.
