Virtual DJ

Virtual DJ

Professional software
I have a few friends in the DJ business who use Virtual DJ. It is great software. Its also very affordable. The whole point is to hook it up with physical hardware decks on your computer. This isn't a toy or game, this is professional software.

Could you rate it on 10? Is Deckadance better?

Traktor is waaaaay better imo.

Why is it better?

Ive used both programs, and for me traktor has a way better UI and more to customize, plus it doesnt look so basic like VDJ. And the beat matching is alot smoother and more accurate. So yeah, imo Traktor is alot better in terms of performance and utility,
I haven't used deckadance, traktor is better but a liscense will BREAK your bank literally. :P

I also think traktor, serato or something like that is the better choice if you really to make professional DJ work. It costs "a bit" more but you get a professional program. I don't kno how that program is working, but as an audio engeneer I always have issues running my professional Audio Drivers (ASIO) if steam is open. My soundcard "ESI MAYA44" only makes sometimes problems, but my old M-Audio was a mess together with steam. (Don't want to say that steam is not good, but with professional audio there are some bad problems)
The best at Traktor is that you can use all of your Midi Controllers without programming anything. You also have the ability to work with other Native Instruments programs and if you combine them it gets EXTREME! Traktor + Maschine + Kontakt + Kore for mastering or something like that.
For fun it's a good program for a good price but you can't really make professional mixes with it, or use it for a gig like Serato Scratch.
Traktor Audio 2 is at about 100$ including Traktor Lite Software.
I hope that long text will help someone decide :)

If you just want to mix and record and don't need 2 or more virtual turntables, check Ableton Live!

sorry for my english

ehh not really. If you are looking into computer based DJing I recommend traktor. While it IS a little more expensive, it is head and shoulders above both virtual dj AND deckadance

You can get good deals from NI sometimes. I did.

I got traktor 2 for "free" with my Kontroller 2 and it's pretty good software. I've also used VDJ, Deckadance AND Serato. I think they're all fine for basic mixing (I prefer Serato for just doing mixes, personally). Though, Traktor's effects are quite good; which I guess is to be expected from a company like NI.

Deckadance has a good chance to be something great, but Image Line has to get up to speed with supporting different controllers. It's kind of a sad state at the moment.

On the downside... NI's installers and updaters are bloody painful. Their support is terrible, and everything they make could arguably be deemed overpriced. They're kind of like the Apple of the electronic instruments world.

Regardless, I feel a lot of people give Virtual DJ a bit too hard of a time. Yes it doesn't have remix decks you can hook up to Z1 or whatever, but it's pretty solid mixing program with a nice and responsive feeling to it, and it's pretty affordable. It also has a relatively dedicated community who are making plugins for pretty much any controller you can fathom.

Really, if you're just looking to mix some tracks together, I think this program will do what you need.

Traktor and VDJ are good programs but does anyone remember Torq? Damn shame you can't find it anymore.

Torq was that M-Audio program, wasn't it? This reminded me of a really old program called PCDJ Red. It was complete garbage back like ... 10 years ago when I first used it. Out of curiosity I checked to see if it's still alive, and it actually looks pretty competent now. It's called "Dex 2" now-a-days. Interesting!

The UI is a mess IMO.

If you expect to play to a club of thousands of people with equipment that costs more than some peoples cars then maybe you should be looking at purchasing something a little more expensive and professional to use as your software but if you just like to play about at home or with friends this is more than good enough for the price it is.
