If you liked RF4S and want more of it, I'd say it is worth it, and it is definitely a buy for me. You could also always give it a spin on a NDS emulator and see how you like it.
That is an odd choice to make it Switch and PC only, you never know they may bring it over in time.
SIE's HQ is located in California and no longer a Japanese company. Games like these have to be censored (Yes, even in Japan. Not by rating organization such as CERO, by their own PS Store department) in order to get released on PlayStation nowadays. Japanese game devs don't wanna deal with that double standard ♥♥♥♥ so they just straight up ignore PlayStation for their PS VITA/3DS ports/remasters.
You have have literal sex scene in last of us 2 but no! Anime bikinis are bad. Also some indie horror game also has to be censored on PS because they are too scary (WTF?)
Lol. You didn't even scratch the surface of the issue.
Additionally, Sony has lost many customers exactly because of this. Therefore, it is not fair to say that people who are concerned about censorship are being oversensitive. Even those who advocated for this censorship, aka toxic woke, do not buy those games =))
Anyways. I'm more concerned about the translation as RF5's translator is a know Trashlator who censored many anime, games, visual novels and more that I'm surprised people still hire said person. And i have no clue if they keep the original text or if it will be trashlated
Original RF4 was more ambitious and introduced more in-depth mechanics, but it annoyed the hell out of me. Given more time, RF4 could have been more polished but it never happened even with RF4 special. Random town event for marriage is always luck based and requires save and reload trick.
RF4 also suffered from an extremely story-locked location whereas 60% more of RF3 areas can be entered from the start. In order to craft most things, you need to progress the story first to unlock more locations and materials. RF3 gives more sense of freedom and less restriction on what you can do which is blocked by quests and stories.
TBH, RF3 need more graphic improvement than RF4 since it is the only thing holding them back from being appreciated in the present day. RF4S weakness though is not fixed or cannot be fixed in the remake. The remake does not help RF4 much as RF3.
I really wait for RF3 remake for a long time because it is the best RF for me.
To summarise and answer the OP's question, yes, totally worth it, RF3 is not inferior to RF4 unless you talk about graphics and male love candidates. RF3S even fixed the graphic to be more modern so RF3S is not worth your time only if you really care about marrying to male NPC. More sophisticated mechanics RF4 are not always better. The simpler is the better for me, which is RF3.
Wow that is a bummer, I'm glad I don't need this on PS. I hate the censorship as well.
Interesting, thanks for the in depth answer. I thought RF 4 Special made it easier to get married I didn't know that.
Also minor tweaks, bug fixes and extra voicelines have been added.
Well OG RF4 already doesn't force you to be married in order to clear the story. I'd rather enjoy the harem
RF3 special's main game is mostly untouched aside from the dungeon part. Even the old bugs still usable there.
Might mention some? As in i want to be aware of any game breaking ones (like save corruption, imposibil to advance story, and such)
When you said like, it reminds me how ironic that marriage in RF3 is mandatory to clear the story but very easy to do so and I never see anyone complain about it. Whereas marriage in RF4 is not, but much harder than beating the game itself and annoying.
To each of their own, but I play this genre mainly for marriage. Story in RF series is not that interesting anyway.
Sad but true. If many abilities, locations (so on and on) weren't locked behind story progress, I'm sure most people would focus only on farming, town events and marriage, and monster related. Not touching the story at all.
Rune factory 5 is the best exemple as story was just there (yes, had it's moments), but some of the town and characters sub story where amazing. For me personally, the best where a certain ranger and a noble girl
The enemy despawn bug from Marian's quest 8 seems to be fixed just a month ago. Not very sure tho
But the shop bug from the original still usable

(oh nevermind, that get patched on the last patch too)
