A Question About Guides

Will i potentially miss a lot of fun stuff (secrets, locations, romance, upgrades etc) if I don't use a guide? I have been really looking forward to playing this as I really like the characters and theme, but I really don't want to miss anything. But on the other hand, I really like discovering as much as possible on my own. I just worry I might not do everything good enough.
