the aides are split up in two things, a few, but mainly two, trust and level.

The aide starts out with 0 trust, in every day sailing, he will gain one trust, when he hits 50 trust, you can assign a ship to him, in the right top corner of the "i think" the aide chanhe duty option, when hes 50 trust, you can assign a ship there, and then he will follow you.

So he starts on your ship, once on 50 trust, he can sail on his own.

There are levels too, every job type, the aide will do some things on its own, and some skills of him"assist skill" will give you +1 on the skill you have.
The things he will do alone are really different, like the storekeeper lets him fight rats, and fire, while on the surgeon job, he will heal your men, and keep them healthy.

It depends on the level, and the job type he is in, wich things he will do

there you can see what skill each aide has, and you can choose different types of aides, and if you click on the aide, you can see wich skill is unlocked on what level.

If youre still confused, try looking google for "uncharted waters online aide guide"

There are alot around, and perhaps explaining the matter abit more in detail..

If you still have questions, dont hesitate to ask again. or ingame in school or wordlchat, people are really helpfulll in this game :D

So do they follow you on land, or do they only exist in your ship? I guess what I'm asking is do you actually ever see them out of menus? I know you can custimize their equipment, but I don't see the point of that if you can't see them.

oh yeah, forgot about that, on land you have only the stats of the aides, as far as i know you cant have them on land, you will get the stats like the +1 to certain skills but for the rest.

So as far as i know you can only see your aide on sea as a ship, i have only one aide, but ive never seen them on land, or land battle.

Sorry about that, kinda forgot the theyre not land part :D

But if you give your aide liek, a armor and sword, that damage calculation will be counted towards defense and attack power, when he gets entered on sea in battle, just like when you having the equipment i think. so giving him equips is not toally useless, but i guess not alot of peeps are using it without knowing for sure they will use the aide in battle.
