Balancing in "The Woods" is bad.
The rest of the levels leading up to it is great in terms of "roguelite" difficulty but if you die in The Woods you're better off just restarting the entire run. Depending on how the RNG of spawning the new Volunteer goes, coupled with the lack of supplies/buy stations, it's not uncommon to be trying to fight the Giant Hand and gun zombies right out of spawn with just a kitchen knife and a crappy firearm.

When I finally do get to the Giant Eyeball boss after that, I'm stuck having to use the turrets (which are a deathtrap due to the interface delay of getting in/out of it) or trying to beat a 30ft. eyeball to death with a shovel.

It lowkey sucks on Normal or above difficulty.

My tactic is to summon the eye once you explored everything. I do admit that the woods is the most "open" areas making the only strategy to deal with ranged enemy is to: get aimed, dodge, and then go back and snipe them with your most long range weapon.

Speaking of the turret thing, I think sometime the interface delay could cause a bit of bug where you might get stuck because you tried exiting the turret too fast while also getting damaged. You can still use the turret, it's just sometime you have to be lucky that the eye didn't choose to roll or use laser beam on you

Most of the woods is great, but the eyeball boss and the 3-limbed spike enemy really drag it down imo. I'm currently stuck on it and i really do feel like i should just restart because this is kinda brutal.

Pretty much what I'll do when I hop back on, restarting seems to be the only way if you play on a hard difficulty tbh, kinda sucks when the game throws several mini-bosses at you if you got the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ starter loadouts

your starting loadout after dying should honestly be a bit better than in the beginning once you get to the woods, give us an actual chance

not that anyone cares but I reset my run and I finished the game without even dying, woods was by far the hardest level for no reason lmao

Yes, i think this lvl is not well balanced. I waste a lot of volunteers here. I just can't collect enought stuff to beat minibossess. Everytime it is wrong way and hello to big spider with starting/semistarting weapons. Moreover, in one run i clear all map, but i loss too many health and eye kill me finally. I agree with writers above, just one way to pass this map on third difficulty - restart whole game. Just one try, and if you loss - restart game again. Bad balance, one-attempt-run it is not good.

I have to agree that it seems like a better idea to simply start over the whole run than to try and rescue it. I started doing easy runs to get a hang of things, learn what bosses to melee and which ones not too, then hard runs to get used to the difficulty spike and finally nightmare runs. I feel like once you get the fireaxe and a good stack of drones/turrets, nothing can stop you.

I just leave it here:
(third lvl difficulty) I restart whole game again, i reach to the woods again and clean whole map and in results, before start bossfight (eye) i have around 150hp/50armor, 3 grenades, 3 active drones (my God) and full inventory of weapons ... and i loss again :)))
Damn eye just oneshot me with ram attack (surprise for me). My volunteer was not bad promoted and was full stack of stuff in inventory. Levels and minibosses were as a joke for my powerfull man, it is mean that it is only one good way to pass this level - restart game. Restart level (a least of this damn Woods map) will give you a nothing and meaningless wasting a time in infinity hopeless tries to break the stone wall by the your head.

DEV! please do someting with restarting map gememechanic after dead, it just not worked :)
Game too easy up to this point when you die, and incredably hard with starting late maps with just UZI and kitchen knife:)
(but cool game anyway)

Just experienced this, basically unwinnable trying to fight the worm with a hammer. The boss confuses me because theres two turrets there but he does his shockwave attack at such a fast interval you cant use them, and rolling through them leaves you with depleted stamina after 2 waves, so you just get hit by them the next round. Extremely tedious.
The Eyeball is not so tough to beat. You can roll over the shockwaves and outrun the lasgun. If you have the shield gadget, just use it and then go unload into the eye with the turret. The shield stays one, when you are on the turret and it is enough to deny all 3 shockwaves.

You can use the turret even during pauses between eye ball laser attacks. Only in the end, when the eye starts rolling, you have to use your own gun.

I beat the boss on the first try, but the wave of minibosses at the end killed me :(

I had not enough ammo for all of them. I started the map with 300 small ammo and one gun. It was not enough :S

I have died on this level after beating the eye, and after restart it just wasn't there. Maybe due to the patch.

I just can't. I've beat the eye, I can beat two mini-bosses on my dying breath... but not three. Definitely not three. I have a money to buy medkit, but there's no place to buy medkit.
So, it's basically a soft-lock. Developer knows about it and does nothing, unfortunately.
